Engine rebuild with no marks and PMA

Hey guys, I'm rebuilding a points engine from scratch and chucking in a Mikes PMA. The problem is I don't have the old stator with marks so I'm stuffed if I can work out where to position the crank before connecting up the camshaft. I know I need TDC before fitting my PMA but without connecting the crank and cam correctly in the first place I'm pissing into the wind. I do have the old rotor though...Any pearls of wisdom out there?
