Good morning from CT. I am planning on "starting her up" for the first time in 42 years today (I'm gonna try to keep this short winded..lol) I have been getting most of my answers by searching older posts. I have given her a quick oil change
adjusted cam tension, valves, points, new plugs, cleaned and rough adjusted carbs, kicked her over quite a bit to perhaps get some oil moving? I had her running for a few seconds on starting fluid a few weeks back. I was wondering if there was a way (other than loosening a banjo bolt on top) to see if she's getting the oils she needs at the top end. I have not changed the filters yet, but all I'm looking for today is a short stationary idle. Anything you folks can add would be appreciated. thanks

Great news on your start-up. To check oil at the top of the engine simply remove the tappet covers front and back on the top.
If you crank the engine (by foot or electric) you should see oil covering the top end mechanicals.

Hello guys, start up better than i could have expected. My "fuel tanks" were two 18" pieces of fuel line....suspended by mechanics wire. she turned, fired up. once she was warm, I shut off the choke and she purred like a kitten for a bit for the first time in 42 years. I refilled my "tanks" twice as she idled. I know this is not a big deal, but I had quite the grin for a bit and had to tell someone who would understand this. ( my wife did let out a "whoopie!) knock on wood, no seal leaks yet.

It is a big deal. One more little step into the sickness we share. Cheers
