I've just fitted the camshaft back into my xs650 engine
I set the pistons on exactly tdc
I fitted the cam with the notch on cam sprocket facing straight up,as well as the advance and retard pin facing straight up
And the dot on the camshaft sprocket is level with the top of the head and the front run of the cam chain taught
My question is my Haynes manual states with the cam in this position the engine should be on the compression stroke on the left cylinder
But mine is on compression on the right!
Is the manual wrong
Or am I wrong?
Cheers

The Haynes manual is wrong and you're right. With the motor set at TDC and the notch on the cam pointing straight up, the right cylinder will be on it's compression stroke while the left cylinder is on its exhaust stroke .....

Brilliant
Thank you,I thought I was going mad for a moment!!!

It's the dot on the others idea the needs to be level with the face that you should be looking at ,it's too easy to get it a tooth out guessing if the notch is upright
