Just a quick question that I can't seem to find on the thread. I was going to replace my front fork springs. Currently I have zero leaks or a problems except that they feel soft. I was going to buy replacement springs. Can I just removed the 17mm hex dump the old spring and oil and replace with new spring and oil? Or do I have to completely take the forks apart? The first option seems quicker that's why I ask. Plus I have no.leaks or issues.

If you don't know the last time the oil was changed, then chances are it never has been. That means there's a slimy MESS at the bottom of the forks.
I always disassemble new to me forks for that reason. After they're nice and clean, then yes, any subsequent oil change is just a matter of drain and replace.

In case I misunderstood, yes, soon as you remove the 17mm cap, the spring will fall/pull right out. No need to disassemble just for the spring.

Thanks. Not what I wanted to hear but totally makes sense
