Yes, lots of guys cut those brackets off but I really don't understand why. That's what you hang the exhaust off of. It's not like you're saving a ton of weight by doing so, not that it would matter much. This is a modestly powered middleweight machine. It's no superbike and cutting those useful brackets off isn't going to make it one, lol.

Hi 5twins,
the OP should know that those brackets are also where the passenger footpegs go.
And if a bike don't have passenger footpegs taking a young lady on a wild weekend ride won't work too well.
