Parking Brake on the Vette is wedged between the driver's seat and the door sill. Hasn't been used in years, doesn't want to release enough to turn off the warning light. Can't get at it to lube it without removing the driver's seat.

Checked Da Toob and if you know where the clips are, it's a 5 minute job. One clip under the front edge and the bottom cushion comes off, 4 easily accessible bolts and the seat frame and back lift out. Two Phillips screws and the cover over the brake lever comes off. Bada-bing, bada-boom.

35 years of dried up grease softened with some WD-40 and Bob's yer aunt (Bob's a kinky dude...)

I did take some extra door sill molding off so I could mask around the brake mechanism with some Saran Wrap before hosing it down with WD-40 so as not to soak the carpet.

Replaced the wimpy horn yesterday so it doesn't sound like a 60's VW Beetle.
 
Yes you can find great info on the Tube. It’s great for guys like us who know how to wrench and are already tech capable. It is however risky for those who don’t know end of a hammer they should hold. A friend with a local repair shop once told me YouTube was one of his greatest sources of income, as much of the work he did was fixing up the messes people made, after trying to fix something according to YouTube.

If you can watch at least a couple different video's, there usually one that shows up an error in another. And read the comments!
Doing Transit van rear brakes, one video was like a how to NOT do a brake job. :cautious:
Oh yeah, I've seen a few of those! Usually preceded by a guy running his mouth for half the video. When he brings out a ball-peen hammer and a mexican speed wrench (crescent wrench/adjustable spanner for our friends across the pond) that's a big hint.

Yeah, YouTube really is great for figuring out how to access something, or find hidden fasteners. Stuff that would have you scratching your head for hours.
A couple of years ago I wrote about replacing the headlights in our Toyota Yaris, in order to do that, the entire front fascia had to come off! After watching a couple YouTube videos ( I swear there’s a video for anything you can think of ) I was able to locate all the hidden clips and fasteners and understood all the steps required. It turned out to be easier than this looks. 😲

:agree:. On the other hand, I find that some of the brand/model-specific forums (this one very much excluded!) are frequented by a mix of predominantly self-proclaimed experts and a more limited number of knowledgeable folks. It generally becomes self-evident pretty quickly which is which, although I have to admit to having been lead down erroneous paths more than once. Just like the "buyer beware" caveat, reader beware!
