Bummer
It is difficult or impossible to downshift Clutch seems to operate .Because when riding I can pull it and the drive disengages
Have adjusted fully In no difference
Not any noise

Not many miles since start this season ca 60 Km ( 40 miles ) and did not have that problem last year

Left side needs to come off.
Right side might as well come off for finding the Rev counter drive problems when the oil is drained

AI suggest it is the mechanism around the Star Wheel and the Shark finned " thing " adjustment
It can wear according to AI

Please tell if it is something else thoughts and experience or what to focus on Some spring or other

You do realise, AI, in all likelihood got the information from this site.

Now you are asking for confirmation of the AI answer on this site.

No I did not realize that I know to little about that AI
and using it on other questions I don't know how and where the answers come from either..

AI has to get its info from somewhere. The search AI on DuckDuckgo states at the bottom of the answer where it referenced the info from. Ask a XS650 question it usually states from here or Wikipedia.
I don't think Facebook is to reliable, so let's hope some of the AI programs aren't using that source

HYpothetical that is actually happening.

People use AI for their answers, AI gets it from here, people stop using the site for information. Site folds and shuts down due to loss of traffic.

So if AI hasn't absorbed every bit of info this site has then there is a gap between what was known, (years of research and exchange of information), on here, XS650.com and what AI knows.

So now the site is offline AI does not have the answers that are lost. People rely on AI as a know all, in reality up to 80%, (those little tio bits), of information could b lost.

Not knocking you Jan, for any good AI might help us there are more negatives we don't comprehend til it will b to late.

Yes Sir
I will try to check Duck Duck go
But pre internet and otherwise If I fex was looking for a specific car or item
I let it out among the Friends And other petrolheads.

fex Who has a HD Shovelhead up for sale ..having some patience things start coming word gets around
phone and email are giving leads I come in Contact with people I dont know.
Call Benny on that number

Who can rewind a Rotor
That is Johnny up there in Hicksville He is retired but I will Check with him
Call him
Many times should it be a good friend and one that is a good friend with Johnny
Things gets sorted out Johnny can be retired but in special situations take on the job.
Services no one knows about and not accessible without the connections.

Once you talk to people and been doing it many years people know who you are and it gets simpler.
It used to be Important ones reputation. And then at times cut corners .If both are intelligent and honest
Special arrangements are possible. It will work out.

Posting here .Is taking a chance there can be persons at this point in time having had the same problem last week
Fixed it and point in the right direction. I then don't have to do my own mistakes
Saving time Searching the net or read manuals
perhaps gets info
It is that part XX -YYYY you need --- I can then order it before opening the Motor

Time saving is a factor here since the season can be short because of the Climate wrenching in the Winter and riding in the summer.
It now points so the XS 650 gets parked and it will be Honda Fireblade instead

On the right side, clutch basket…… if that final lockdown nut that holds everything together gets loose you will have shifting problems.

Just musing here now. Did all the xs’s come with the lockdown tabbed washer to hold that nut in place?
Did some come with the slightly conical shaped spring washer? Both?
I’ve slept some since I had to deal with THAT problem.

before you rip into the motor, adjust the drive chain and the clutch actuator free-play on the left side of the motor. that can fix your issue. when my downshifts become less smooth, those are the adjustments ai make and it fixes the problem every time.
Thank you I did adjust it before riding home out on the road so to speak had some tools with me
even when adjusted so that the kick did not operate no difference shifting.
will check the chain --- is being to tight the problem ?

I have parked it for now
This is the most beautiful time of year with nights getting shorter.
so I lifted Lolita out of the storage Honda Fireblade 929 2000
If I recall correct bought it 2018
Have started every year after winter at the push on the button This year no smoke

Left rear turn signal
had broken off in the storage room. hung in the wiring
Quite a lot of work to get in behind to put a big washer on the inside

Rolled it to a place where I can work on it .The chain adjustment is OK
Clutch have been tested
Oil and side is Coming Off ..

But thank you for the advice I like those CSF Cheapest Simplest First

I am in -- oil is out and clutch plates is out Got Late so stopped there
Now I need to loosen the clutch holding nut . Bought a tool once that folded and ruined the basket
The ones I can se for sale seems Pricey
On line for sports bikes word is holding it with hand and a rag Using the Air driven Impact Wrench
Does that sound correct anyone done that ?
Dont need start with full pressure. on the compressor

Good advice here gentlemen ,Perhaps something for the Tech Section . I am still disappointed on the tool that folded
first pay for the tool and then a replacement clutch Basket. If the tool is sold one believes it be a solution.
And if there is a solid way to do it as it seems Off and On people can save some money.

Idaho Mikes method Thank You
Electrical Impact wrench .Don't buy those ...useless but it helped here
Last time motor was out ...
should have thought of this myself
It appears be out of adjustment
but have to check impression is that the star wheel is not moving properly
