I keep meaning to ask, Larry, what's the story on your bike? You said it's your first bike. Have you kept it the entire time? Found it and brought it back? What's the back story?

It's not my original first bike, at least I don't think so. It was a cheap buy off marketplace a few years ago within 10 miles from the town where I rode it around back in the late 70s. I stored it knowing I'd eventually get to fixing it up and finally tore into it this year. More of nostalgia than anything, I guess. Figured it would be a good learner bike for my grandson. Many good memories on that bike as a kid. I learned real quick that parts are very hard to come by for whatever reason. Must not have been too popular compared to the yamahas, suzukis, and Hondas back in the day. Standard size piston and rings are NLA, and new old stock rings alone goes for over $100, if you can find them. I was too quick on the draw with that rectifier "fix". It only puts out 5.6 volts max to the headlamp, so very dim. I'll wait for the alternator diodes to arrive and hopefully that'll do the trick. BTW, those are avalanche type diodes.
