I just watched a wireless mobile ad where you can get "unlimited" data for $50. "Not only that," the girl says "we will give you money back for any data you don't use!"
So here's my question, if it's unlimited data, what part of that is not used and they'll pay us back for?

Inquiring minds want to know... :er:

I had a joker show up at the door today telling me how great his fibre-optic internet service was/is, how cheap it is and how many bonus features and perpetual subscriptions I would get if I accepted his offer, which I could only get from him as a sales rep but not from his employer's website... plus he was going to throw in a $200 gift card, all of which was mine to keep without signing any form of long-term contract. Whatever the pitch was, I wasn't buying it!

Here is another con job.

Large chains will advertise a product with the enticement of, "if you can find the product at a cheaper price anywhere else we will match their price"

Can't find that product because the chain store has its own branding on that product. Others may be exactly the same, but with a different brand name or no one else can sell that brand

Sales pitches are fraudulent these days and even the larger known companies have sellers that con you
Not long ago I Signed up for a deal on the Phone .Should get a new handset.
No phone arrived and a paper confirmation on the Agreement in the mail Not the same
Not the same as per phone $ 10 $ 15 per month more expensive

Had to call back .The first seller had flat out lied He said that the data capacity I had should be closed
The lowest available was twice as much data ---Flat out lied
Not only was it still available there was even lower data available .

I no longer talk to anyone calling or selling something outside a supermarket or so.
" Not interested " and disconnect .
Big problem here fraud against elderly. Getting access to bank on line accounts .stealing money.

My telephone policy - which drives Mrs. Downeaster batshit - is that you have 5 seconds to prove you're someone I know/wish to talk to. If that doesn't happen, I hang up without saying a word. That's on the land-line. On the cell, if you're not in the Contacts list, I don't even answer.

In-person sales attempts are rejected with less finesse...

If I want something, I know either where to get it or who to call.

My favorite is telling Jehovah's Witnesses that I'm pagan and Thor bless them before closing the door without giving them time to respond.
Lol, the last time I had the religion cold sell on a Sunday morning I told them I didn't believe, said keep your pamphlet was very cordial asked them questions, and we discussed a rang of social issues. After an hour they were shuffling their feet, I kept them engaged.
Bout an hour and a half later they finally told me they had to go.
Cheers nice to meet and great conversation.......no one has ever come around again. Bit disappointed......😆

I had a t-fiber ( fiber optic cable ) rep at my door same offer so I signed up got the $200 Visa gift card and are rates are $55 a month and no contract
The old company we had ( Spectrum )was charging us $100 per month and they were the only game in town that had decent speed
I'm happy we finally got to ditch Spectrum

Sounds like the exact same deal I was pitched, which included Crave on a perpetual subscription. In reality, I think the deal wasn't bad or misrepresented, its more that I am satisfied with the service I currently get, including the price.

Quite a few years ago, we had two young Mormon lads show up, asking if there was any work they could do. Well, there is never a lack of things that need doing around here, so I put them to work doing yard clean-up. The worked their asses off, were pleasant company and never pitched or engaged in any form of religious discussion. I decided that that should join us for dinner, which they did. They said they would like to return the following week to do more work, which they once again did, after which I feed them. This went on for at least a month, after which they announced that their tour of duty had come to an end. They had learned that I did a fair amount of welding and asked whether I would like some welder's sleeves...sure, why not? Turns out one of the fathers made such things. A few weeks after they left, I received a package from Utah containing a half dozen sleeves!

Moral of the story for me was not to reject the cold callers until I know what they want. If you're selling religion or beliefs, the interaction will be brief. If I don't have time to engage, I have no hesitation to let it be known.

20-30 yrs ago I was on my roof installing attic vent turbines. Middle of summer... it was hot.
I hear someone clear their throat and say "excuse me..." It was a group of 4-5 young men in white shirt and ties. They introduced themselves as from the Jehovah's Witnesses.

"Hi" I said.

One of 'em said "We'd like to talk to you about our church" or some such comment.

I said "I'm a little busy at the moment."

One said "well if you can come down and talk to us, we'll only take 5-10 min of your time."

I said "What part of busy didn't you understand?"

They shuffled around a bit and said "Perhaps we can come back in an hour?"

I just stared at 'em. They finally wandered off. Yeah, I was rude, but asking me to stop and climb down off the roof? Wtf!? What would you do?

Made me think of this...

Many years ago I was riding my bicycle home in the rain, and as I came around a corner I lost it and crashed. I was a bit bruised and scratched up (bleeding, but no heavily), and save for the fact the chain had come off, the bike was no worse for wear.

The only light readily available nearby was that of a Baptist church. I pushed my bicycle up the little walk to get closer to the light, and commenced attempting to reinstall the chain.

Now, my bike (my first 10-speed) had no kickstand, so I was balancing it against my head while working with the chain. Needless to say, the thing would end up shifting and falling over, or bashing me in the head, resulting in my letting go of the chain and hence needing to start over again.

A gentleman walks up and says, "do you know where you're going to go when you die?"

I didn't reply, but kept on working.

He said, "if I were a good person, I'd put my books down and help. But I'm not a good person, but because I know the Lord Jesus Christ, I know I am going to Heaven."

A wasn't necessarily certain of my own destination, but with that statement, I had some suggestions for him. None of which included Heaven.

I looked up with a look something akin to a lion getting ready to pounce on its prey, and he wondered off.

For the record, this particular pastor was later removed for having an affair with the wife of one of the church members (a friend of mine's mother, actually).

Tact is what prevents you from telling the stupid exactly how stupid they really are. Chances are that in the event that tact fails you, the stupid will not recognize that they are being told so, as they are too stupid to begin with.

Naw, you weren't rude...
