A pallet of stove pellets weighs a ton - 2000 pounds. 50 bags at 40# each.

I moved every one of those bags 3 times: Off the pallet to the back of the big trailer. From the back of the big trailer to the back of the cargo trailer, then stacked them inside the cargo trailer for at-hand storage.

Bought two pallets at Deep Homo. The forklift driver got them shoved a bit far forward on the 18 foot trailer, but better too much tongue weight than not enough. Took it easy coming home.

Got about 2/3 of the first pallet unloaded and stacked and then chained it to Guido and yanked it to the back of the trailer to save some steps. Once all of that pallet was in the cargo trailer, I chained up the full pallet that was 3/4 of the way to the front of the trailer and hauled it back over the axles of the trailer. Did have to back up and get some slack for a good jerk to get it moving but after that, with Guido in low-low and 4 wheel lock it just idled away with it.

I'll unload the rest into the barn tomorrow. I think 6000 pounds of dead lifts is enough for one day...

If you’re routinely doing that kind of labor I agree you don’t need the gym. I sit in a chair all day. I NEED the gym. I got a late start, but I’m steadily improving.

Why pellet stove and not just a regular wood stove
Firewood harder to come
Sore subject...we actually HAVE a wood stove that we used for years. Mrs. Downeaster decided 3 or 4 years ago that she couldn't handle the smoke from the occasional back-draft and won't let me light it.

I'm hoping the pellet stove - being hopper fed and therefore no need to open the door while it's running - will be cleaner. Also, bagged pellets are easier to handle, cleaner and less work than buying and working up tree-length wood.

I actually enjoyed that part of it for the most part but it IS a lot of work. Cut to length, split to size, lug it to the wood shed, stack it, lug it in the house, burn it, lug the ashes out, etc.

Not that I have a hell of a lot else to do in the Winter and if it weren't form Mrs. Downeaster's objections I'd still be doing it.

I feel your pain.
Some old guy has taken up residence in my body.
More tomorrow.

Same here... the arborist came today to trim some maples and some white pines that were dangerously overhanging roofs. The deal was that he drops 'em and I deal with the mess on the ground. Break out one of the chainsaws, have at it for an hour or two. After filling a 14 x7 trailer with branches and loading my pick-up with the logs, all of this just from the maples, that old guy has definitely taken up residence... then had to clear all the pine trunks to regain access to my driveway... then to top it off, the water heater failed. Off to HD, get a heater, cart in into the basement, do the swap, cart the old one out, back in the p/u for tomorrow's dump run. Then Junior says "come help me pick up the car I just bought. Drive 30 minutes into town, wait as he gets the transaction done, drive 30 minutes back. Its 9;30 before this is all done. Speaking of all done, that's me, all done (for today at least!).
