If you have a weak heart...

I drive a 2015 4Runner. Third 4Runner I’ve owned. Great truck, comfortable and reliable. While I’ve always wanted to upgrade to a new model, common sense kicks in. First and foremost, it would probably cost me st least $40-45K to get a 2024. Second, these truck are popular to be stolen when newer. Although my truck still looks good, I think it’s too old for the crooks to be interested in it. Finally, when I go somewhere I’m not paranoid about getting door rings etc in a parking lot - kind of a worry free ride - note: not one door ring yet in 10 years of ownership (knock on wood).

So like @Downeaster , I’ll drive this one until the wheels fall off too. I’ve neglected the paint over the years and although it still looks good, could use a professional polish job.

I just traded my '15 F-150 on a '21 Honda Ridgeline. There are a lot of haters on the Ridgelines, but I drove a 1st Gen for over 12 years and 150k miles with no issues. My F-150 was overkill and I had a lot of mechanical repairs coming due, so it made sense to get into a smaller truck. While I don't do a lot of hauling, the Honda is capable of my needs and the AWD is phenomonal. But anyone buying a used truck will definitely get their eyes opened as to what even a decently used one will cost. My F-150 had about 130k miles and in need of several costly repairs. Still the dealer had it sold in less than a week for $26k. Ironically that is what I paid for it 4 years ago with 88k on the clock. But I also bought it from my brother who sold it to me at trade in value when he got a new truck.

Serious sticker shock.... 50 grand for a Ford F series .... or more ! A Raptor was nearly 6 figures.... .. other manufactures see it and follow suit.... spring of 09' I got a new Ford Ranger.. (2008) out the door... tax.. etc etc ... $14,000... ( Valentimes gift from the girlfriend, now wife ).... great truck.... 4 banger, slush box... had a/c... ran it over 150000 miles... my oldest son still drives it... approaching 225000.... I checked into another truck... wanted another Ranger... Ford's " RANGER " is a smaller F150 and overpriced ... if you want to know what's the lowest priced pickup on the market... visit auto parts stores and pest control stores.... what do they drive as delivery service units... ? it was the Nissan Frontier.... I checked... lowest priced truck at that time... bought one new... a 2018.... spring of 2019.... new... out the door, almost $18,000.oo... 4 banger, slush box, a/c, last year with a CD player... extended cab... now nearly 150000 miles.... it's been to both coast... more than once.... down south.... all I've done is pads and rotors on the front and pads on the rear... 2nd set of tires..... Great truck.... 😎

If I really NEED a truck, I’d go this way. What I NEED is a car to get me to work. What qualifies is a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire complete with mismatched wheel covers and deer strike damage. Yes, I’m sure it makes me look poor. It goes 30 mpg, ice cold a/c, functioning radio, etc. It qualifies as filling my NEED and saves me a ton of money. On the rare occasions I need a truck, I’ll rent one.

Everyone needs a beater, something that's reliable, cheap to purchase, inexpensive to repair and operate, that you don't have to worry about how it looks, and if it gets totaled in a crash you can replace for another equally as cheap.
How ever now that I'm 70 I have one further requirement, it needs to sit up at a level that easy to get in and out of. BE looking to replace my old Impala for that reason soon, and the suggestion about of a Nissan Frontier might be the ticket

In the 70’s and 80’s , I owned a former forest service truck, a 1960 Chevy step side with a straight six and 4-speed stick shift. Man I loved that truck, simple as a stone axe. Sure wish I would’ve kept it. 😢

Late 80’s I bought a Toyota mini truck. It was reliable and fuel efficient…..and boring.

I traded in my 1976 JEEP Grand Cherokee and a Lexus GS450 Hybrid; both of which I loved, but were getting a bit old.
Also the Jeep's 19 MPG was a bit hard on the wallet at the pumps. My current daily ride is now a VW Amarok:

OK I a traded a little refinement compared to the other cars but its still has full leather and all the toys I need.
Owned now for 7 years it hasn't missed a beat, and gets me to remote parts of the Welsh mountains where I like to fish for Salmon, Sewin and Trout.
It's like putting on a favorite old jacket each time I get aboard.

Aren’t Sewin and trout the same fish?
