Hi All,
I'm slowly working on my '83 XS650 and ran into an issue with the Pamco Ignition today. I'm still new to this system and my new bike, but during troubleshooting, I noticed the ignition started to smoke (not sure how yet). I ended up cutting the resistor from the wiring to inspect it more closely. Now I'm wondering if that was a mistake—can I resolder the three wires, or will I need to replace the resistor? If so, is it possible to get a replacement directly from Pamco?
I haven't been able to kick over to start it (no starter, going to source one) this is why the electrical trouble shooting. Old owner replaced the wiring with the right parts but I know batter seems to be dead and need a new one. I also think there might be a draw somewhere potentially. I read somewhere that the 83 has a kickstand switch so you aren't able to start it without disengaging? Mind you this bike is no longer stock so not sure if they disengaged it.
Also, are there any other ignition systems that are plug-and-play for the '83 XS650 and might offer better reliability, or is the Pamco still a good system to stick with?
