So flip side of the "I'm not a BMW guy" thread.
I sold the 2000 BMW R1100RT and then was on the hunt for a Yamaha FJR.
There were things about the BMW I did really like. I got used to it even though it was top heavy and tall. I did realize I liked sport touring.
It really kept the wind/rain off me and was good for cold weather. I rode it up until I sold it on days in the upper 30's and 40's and winter gear.

I traveled 3hrs to a dealer to see and buy this 2010 FJR w/ 11K miles. Sales guy said he traded it in for a Goldwing. I looked at title and he put 2100 miles in 12 months. He put new tires on it this summer and they are basically new. One thing on a used bike I find is that looking at the guts and the hoses (brake lines and radiator hoses) really shows how the bike aged. This looked just a few years old. I'm betting the original owner had it stashed a few years before this guy got it and then rode it like it should. GIVI top box is about all the extra that was on it. I"m going to push crash bars and hi way pegs on the bars cause at 5'7" I need the security of those cause I know I"m going to be dropping it once and a while.

Good decision regarding your purchase. You aren't the first one to switch from BMW to FJR. I've got the same bike (Gen II , 2006) in blue.
I've put 60K on it.
The FJR Owners Club is a good forum.

If you are having thoughts of dropping the bike ( :yikes:) there is a vid by TwoWheelObsession on youtube on how to pick it up. Not easy. He started out doing a vid of how to do a U-Turn on a narrow country road and ended up doing one on how to stand it up.

As you might already know, there is a plastic piece under the stock seat that you can remove to lower the seat. Others get thick soled boots or lower the suspension. I have a Corbin seat which is even lower, and the PO had it re-foamed by Corbin to further lower it (he was 5'6') . I'm 6 foot, so I can flat-foot it.

yes, I saw that post at some point and was ferreting around last night for a few minutes to find it. Now its recorded semi permanent here for posterity.
Thanks!

In the BMW, where you stand is forward and I never understood why the seat cushining was not made shorter up front then a bucket for your butt in the back. I did a similar hack on the bmw removing the rear rubber knobs to lower it 1/2 inch and make my rear end sit back. The BWM lifted/lowered from the front and lowerin it just made the front end lower pushing you fowards so your crotch rode the bike. I got a sargent seat for it that changed all that (saved the seat to sell seperately). I can imagine there are things I can do with seat design to get what I want. Kind of cold out here to do a long ride any time soon to test out the rump comfort. I'm way more concerned about long distance than stopping. The Stock BMW seat I would last 1 hr. The sargent, it was at least 2hr.

I like working old bikes better !
The designer for the air box did not have the cable routing in his cadd models. this filter is a little of a pain to remove!
... Just venting...
Found mouse droppings and a stink bug. Since filter is a little dirty and I have it off already. ordered a new one from Amazonia
Good news is the droppings were in the input side only.

I did the simple mod and it lowered seat by 1/2". I really don't get many bike manufacturers how high they make the seats. They really wipe out a large market of women who are on average shorter than men. Nearly every woman I know that rides (not many) started on a Honda Rebel.
