Interesting motorcycles, not XS650

When 500cc is enough.
A nice pair of 500's
Especially like the RE 500.

Yes, and the further development of the S6 and S8 then was the direct ancestor of the XS650: the Horex Imperator, which was first introduced in 1951

This engine was much more similar to the XS than any British twin: a 30 hp 360° parallel twin with an overhead camshaft and rocker arms, controlled by a chain drive between the cylinders, which Horex patented in 1949.

At the end of the 1950s, when people were slowly able to afford cars again and the motorcycle industry was increasingly in crisis, the license for this engine was sold to the Japanese manufacturer Hosk, from where it finally ended up with Yamaha via corporate acquisitions. The rest seems to be history : )

my goodness! look at that similarity? :)

From the Wikipedia article mentioned above: "The last version of the Imperator was the Zündapp Citation built in cooperation with Zündapp with 450 cc engine and raised handlebar for the US market."

And: "However, he (Ernst Leverkus aka 'Klacks', motorcycle journalist) criticised a “very high vibration frequency”, which the driver does not notice in the wrists, but showed himself in tank cracks, torn mudguards and license plates. Independently of this, he praised the 'Imperator' as well as the 'Resident' as motorcycles with the most beautiful engines he had ever seen."

Well, if at least these aren’t clear parallels to our XSs ... 😁

I did start a motogp post way back at the start of the season, but it got no traction . watched the indonesien gp on you-tube last weekend.
Should we start another thread? Maybe call it MotoGP/WSBK (spoilers). I subscribe to both MotoGP and WSBK so I get to see everything any time I want but I try and watch as soon as possible to avoid spoilers.

It is almost like we should have a racing section. To cover all sorts of racing. But let’s start with the thread you suggest

I started this thread a few year ago. I envisioned general pirpose motorcycle info and exchange outside of XS650 and hindsight suggest it may have been best in the Clubhouse. I did not know that at the time. I wondered then if there would be any interest. I certainly do not care that there is thread drift. We each have gained something from the variety of posts here on manyotorcycle subjects and even some non m/c stuff. No harm, no foul.
