Interesting motorcycles, not XS650

I lived in Wa state for a few yrs. They had no state income tax. Sounds great huh? Problem is it takes X amount of dollars to maintain a state. It doesn't matter "where" those dollars come from, you still need 'em to run a state. What that did was make sales taxes and other bullshit "add ons" higher than any other state I've lived in. Like outrageous "oh by the way" dollars added to vehicle sales, title charges etc.

And now.... Missouri has a bill in session to adopt the same... zero income tax... which means sales taxes will go through the roof if adopted into law. 'Cause... you know, the cost of running the state won't change, just "how" and from whom they collect the money will change.

Here's how it'll affects me: I'm retired. Me meager SS and military pension are not taxed as income. I pay no state income taxes. In my mind that sounds fitting for someone who worked hard all their life. You know, like "take a break old dude, we gotcha." If this bill passes, I stand to lose a shitload of income due to the sales taxes and other add on's going through the roof, 'cause, you know, it still take X amount of dollars to run a state.

Those making millions a year will love it of course, they stand to save millions. It'll fall on the backs of poor folk and retired folk like me. Fuck that!
Texas has no state income tax either; State sales tax is 6.5%, bulked up by county and local to 8.25%. The gotcha is real estate tax...not uncommon to reach five figures.

@Jim

Maine has a state income tax, but there are major breaks for military pensions and only part of the SS is taxable. Seeing as, like you, that's my only income, I pay little or no state income tax in the end.

Sounds like the Feds are headed in the same direction on taxing military pensions, don't know if it'll happen this year or not.

A three cylinder 350cc MV Agusta race bike. Actually it's a replica built here in the UK. Correct in every detail and it's as close as any of us would get to being Agostini.

Here in Tennessee, the average combined state and local sales tax rate is around 9.61% (which includes the state sales tax of 7%). However, a reduced state rate of 4% applies to most food for home consumption (plus local taxes_ while prepared meals, candy, and soft drinks are subject to the full 7% rate.

Spend more, pay more.

There are tax discounts for large items, "The state single article rate is 2.75% on any single item sold for a price in excess of $1,600 but not more than $3,200. Other rate exceptions examples would be for specified digital products, aviation fuel, energy fuel for manufacturers, water for manufacturers." (from the TN gov't page).

Having come from "Tax it until it bleeds" Maryland, I love it.

In the UK we pay VAT at 20% on near nuff everything. Cept children's clothes, groceries and take-away meals.
On the bright side, you don't have to pay hundreds/thousands a month for medical/vision/dental insurance... worry about being denied care by said insurance and get bills for thousands of dollars.
Not sure where all that winds up on the balance sheet, but it's gotta be worth something?

....not to turn this into a health care debate, but.....

......my youngest daughter and son-in-law are having a baby boy in the next 2-3 weeks and she is scheduled for a C-section on Feb. 4 if she doesn't go into labour prior to that.

Whatever the medical outcome or mode of little Teddy's arrival, the cost to Marie and Adam will be no more than $8 / day for parking at the hospital, likely for a maximum of 4-5 days before they begin their 12-18 month parental leave (which the two of them can split between them as they see fit).

Contrary to the nonsense pumped in the press of certain nearby countries, this is not "free" or "socialist" health care - it is simply an outcome of being in an HMO of 40 million people, and I'll take that deal every time.

...shuttin' up now.

Sadly the National Health Service is no longer the British crown jewel Aneurin Bevan & Clement Attlee (Prime ministeer) devised. Its now broken up into 'Trusts' which are run as corporate units headed by over paid boards of directors. Waiting times for treatment are so long those that can dip into thier pensions and go private and pay, including my wife and me! People at the NHS front of house work hard despite the money grabbing trustees and politicians.

Ever the salesman our Ads! They look very nice. Tracker is my immediate pick - style, attitude, raw appeal. But I'd feel a bit of a prat buying any new sickle with that race number not happy with that picture in mind as me seventh decade approaches.

Not in the market for new but if it were to appen then I think the Triumph 400 is a very nice platform. Not much around on today's new market interests me much.

If my garage wasn't already packed with project bikes and a couple of currently running bikes, any Triumph 400 single would be almost impossible to resist...The street tracker is the absolutely best looking version so far...
However, if the 400 Scrambler had 18/19 spoked wheels, a nice looking high exhaust, a tad lower weight, and a more classic looking rear fender, it would be totally impossible to resist....

This shared video does not contain information about Somali fraud as it does fraud against our system in general. Whatever your “healthcare” position is, I think it’s fair to say our system is broken. This is costing Americans a whole lot of money any way you look at it. I have my prejudices, but try not to get into that here.

The vid opened my eyes to stuff I had not considered as expressed in the video.

I'm not a fan of those mufflers. I've always preferred the radially symmetric look of a megaphone or a peashooter.

That being said, I'm even more of a fan of just straight drag pipes on any parallel twin.

This is what my overtime is going towards this year. We got absolutely slammed to start off the year so the work is there for us to put in extra hours. Figure in a month or 2 I can afford these, then by riding season I'll have 'em on.

I think we (you and I) somehow got WAY of topic. I guess it’s easy to do.

I’m giving my XS11 some love. I don’t tire of that machine.
