My money is on the KTM. She has ridden them and really liked them, plus I just don’t see her on a larger heavier bike.

The dark horse is the CF450, especially if she is headed for China? Maybe?

I agree the bigger, heavier bikes are most likely out. Interesting the RE isn’t in the lineup. I’m leaning towards the KTM too.

Yeah, even though she is very strong and fit (check out her shoulders in a tank top), she's still pretty short and that means less leverage.

Just watched the vid. Nice choice for all the right reasons. It will be interesting to learn about the level of modification done to the bike. If it’s “over modded”, does it partially defeat the reason for the choice ie. simplicity of repair everywhere? I’m quite sure the mods will have been very well documented so repairs during her next trip will be easier to execute. I’m sure the mods will ensure better performance and reliability though. The next episode will be interesting when she gets into the details of the bike’s build.

Stock specs for an ‘85….

https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/yamaha/yamaha_xt600z_te 84.htm

Going through the MCS Tenere models they claim the 86/87 models had overheating problems.

Yamaha addressed the issue in 88, increasing the fins and redesigning oiling system. Weight increased by 10 kilos in 88.

Are the Euro models different? MCS is usually based on US models, that will b interesting to find out.

The startup sounds fuel injected. No, I didn’t read the ‘85 spec sheet.

He used a choke to start it....

Near as I can tell, the "27mm Dual stage Teikei Y 27 PV carburetor" consists of two carbs. At least one of 'em is a CV... which will help her a lot 'cause it gives her altitude compensation that, while not as good as FI, is a damn sight better than nothing.
