Itchy Boots Fan Boi's (Spoilers Ahead)

Anybody know where she is going with this retro machine?

I think she’s keeping it secret for the time being.

She's been saying it's a trip around the world.

Still not letting the cat out of the bag. But I was thinking about the fact that she is taking off at the beginning of winter, ( in the Northern hemisphere ) which makes me thing she must be heading for the equator or Southern hemisphere to begin with. Maybe Australia? 🤔

I'm gonna disagree with Noraly's "design philosophy" a bit. Although I love carbs, I think fuel injection would be better suited for what she does. I think she'll find the carbs lacking when she hits her first mountain pass at about 10-11,00 ft. Being CV's they'll be better than normal slide carbs, but she's still gonna be way down on power "up high." And carbs will be less tolerant of contaminated fuel than a modern FI setup. I think her decision to use carbs is driven more by the "minimal electrics" philosophy than any advantage the carbs will bring... which brings me to...

Modern day electrical systems are about as reliable as Old Faithful. They just are. I've watched Noraly since the beginning. In all those years I don't recall a single time where an electrical problem had her dead in the water. I could be wrong, but I don't remember it ever happening. The only advantage I see she's given herself is the ability to run with a dead battery. But... modern day battery (jumper) packs are both light weight and powerful. So again' it looks to me more like a solution in search of a problem than any huge advantage.

I can't agree with all your reasoning. At higher altitudes it is true fuel injection will preform better but the engine will loose HP unless it's turbo or super charged. It has to the air is thinner. Since she is not racing just covering distance all she has to do is adapt a little for the drop in performance.
As far as getting a load of crappy dirty fuel in a fuel injected bike you better hope the filter catches it all. If it gets to the pump and/or injector you could very easily be dead in the water. Sure dirt can plug up a filter or carb jets but that is something that can be cleaned even on the side of the road.
Modern electronics are getting dead nuts reliable until they are not. If something electronic fails first you have to figure out what has failed and then try to get a replacement if you are not carrying one. All in all I think she has a valid point going with a carb.

I agree Jim.
I once ventured over a Swiss Alpine pass in the pi$$ing rain on a Honda CB750/4. Running on two pots uphill like a 200kg 50cc moped, then out of each hairpin all four chimed in and I’m snaking for the next bend. Exciting stuff. Carbs, altitude and rain are not good friends. Mind you my mechanics skills were lacking back then. Just sayin’.

Yep, and you were (I assume) on a paved road, so that's about all you had going for you. Noraly's been over passes that were little more than cow trails... full of rocks and potholes. She stalls a lot on that stuff.. Even falls over a fair bit. I don't think that Yamaha is gonna take too kindly to having a plug sooted black as coal from running rich and still start well enough after stalling for the 20th time in 30 min while she tries to keep her momentum up.
Hope I'm wrong, but it ain't gonna be like her little Honda where she just punches the starter button and presses on. It's gonna struggle some.

As tech challenged as I am (think crossbreeding Amish and Luddite), and wishing what you are saying wasn't true, I agree. That being said, I hope we're wrong.

Noraly is making me feel old. She has never had a bike with a carburetor and a choke.I got my first bike with fuel injection about 15 years ago which was a used Ducati Monster. When I got it home I spent more time than I care to admit trying to find the choke and the petcock.
No kidding eh? All three of my bikes have carbs with chokes.

I agree. I think all of that would be fine if the rider on that mountain pass is mechanically savvy, but she is not really that mechanically experienced. That said, I'm sure she is capable of doing anything she sets her mind to. She will learn and that is part of her adventure and why we watch.

Interesting point Rideitfast, regarding the corporate sponsorship. You could be quite right on that.

At the start of every episode, she gets a whole new wardrobe of Rev'it riding gear. I recall her unboxing some Rev'it boxes of new stuff they gave her about halfway through one season. So I think she's already crossed that bridge?

True but I think considering Revit is Dutch they get special treatment? But Arai also sponsors her with her helmets so perhaps my thought process just got shot down.

The bike is done and she doesn't seem to have any problem kick starting it but she still hasn't mastered the choke. On her facebook page she said she had some big news to share in her new episode and I knew she meant her book was coming out in English. I had to laugh at how many people thought she was pregnant, getting married or taking someone with her. Find out soon where she is leaving from and where she is going.

She just did the African continent, the American continent, Pakistan Afghanistan and Iran done (scary but scenic), she’s done India twice, Europe/Russia is too cold in the winter, that leaves Britain, Asia and Australia. I would like to see her do Britain but I think the jungles of Asia are a more likely destination
