JesseeS Build Thread

So you know I couldn't help myself and decided to work on the bike and deprive myself of a bit of sleep. Got the front signals and headlight all wired up! What's left now is the tail end of the bike and speedometer. Quick video. (Sorry for the quality in advance, I was trying to navigate while looking through the phone instead of what I was actually doing)

All wired up except for the speedo! I remember a month or so ago I wanted to buy the green monster coil with the mount because it would be clean and I wouldn’t have to figure out how to mount the mikes high output coil to the bike. Well I decided since my coil was fine I’d just make mounts and save money, so I did. Went to test run the bike today and cranked but no start. Swapped out the gonzo for stock tci, nothing. Hooked up my spark tester (with the see through bulb to see spark) and nothing. At this point I said to myself “I swear to god..” and tested the coil. It tested 2.4 ohms. Pretty sure I have the 1.6 ohm version for tci but alright, then tested the secondary side and OL. You son of a….guess I’ll be grabbing a new coil!

Hey all! I hope you’re enjoying your weekend, I know I am!! THE BIKE IS DONE!! ok I lied, I need grips, and to sync the carbs. But the bike is completely wired and moves under its own power. Once the grips are on and the carbs are synced I’m going to take you guys on a ride via GoPro. I honestly can’t thank all of you guys enough for the help and support you have given me over the past 12 years (yes, I’ve been working on this on and off for 12 years). Can’t wait for all the new questions I’m asking when trying to dial this thing in lol Hope you all enjoy the photos and video!

Time to plan riding with one/some of us, talk shit, laugh at our mistakes.....

THE BIKE IS DONE!! ok I lied, I need grips, and to sync the carbs . . .

But you know and we all know the bike will NEVER be done.

Jessee, that bike is awesome. Looks good, sounds good. Seriously, that is a clean and tidy bike like that don't look like a cobbled together garden shed effort. No awkward angles, no bits that don't fit, well, not that I can see. Love the stance and the style. Well done mate!

Thank you Raymond! And very true, I already have an oil cooler on the shelf in case I need it. Very much looking forward to this part of the build experience, the riding part!

What header pipes are those Jesse? They follow the frame nicely. Are those Emgo megaphone mufflers?
Hey Dunc! The header pipes are XS Performance 1.5” pipes. The muffler are also XS performance adjustable reverse cones. I think I’m into the exhaust for under $200 so I’m happy so far.

Well done sir, well done.

Thanks everyone. Went out today to try and sync the carbs and ran into a few hiccups (don’t we always?). It was very hard to start. I have the battery on a tender but the battery is brand new, although I do have a tender that is specifically designed for this battery coming tomorrow. It also has old gas in it so I’m going to replace with some high octane fresh gas. For the short bit the bike was running I got the carbs very closely synced. I shut the bike off and checked the plugs because I could smell the soot and sure enough my right plug is covered. Left plug was a little dark but not even close to what this one was. Once I address the gas and battery issues and get it running again I’m going to try and adjust my air fuel mixture.

My current carb settings for reference:
BS34s with uni filters.
5IX11 needle
3rd clip position
336-Y-O needle jet
137.5 main
45 pilot
135 air jet
3.5 turns out on the mixture screw.

Fantastic result JesseeS. Bike looks amazing and sounds really nice.
A quality build, I nominate for the calendar January bike. Love it.

If you're plugs are black, I doubt the mix screws will tune it out. At least they never did for me. The mix screws on the 34's don't have a lot of range to 'em.
I initially tried the 45 pilots in my SG 'cause with the less restrictive EMGO muffies on it, everyone said it'd be too lean with the stock 42.5.
It weren't. With the 45's my plugs looked like they're were burning coal. I went back to the 42.5's and all is fine.

Alternatively, you could go up a number or two on the air jets. Maybe try a 137.5 The bonus is, being in the bellmouth, they're easy to get to with the carbs in-situ.

Thanks for that Tid bit Jim. I still have some spares around so once I get everything else performing as it should I’ll take a look at doing a swap at a time. According to my notes I originally had 42.5s in but swapped them out. Also, I’m running the gonzo box. My TCI box was working, but now doesn’t seem to be? This could be related to the battery issue but I’ll try the TCI box again once it’s charged up.

Read again and noticed you said only one plug is black. Possible it's ignition related. Using a dual output coil with 5k resistors in both ends of the HT leads.... could be a resistor (plug or cap) could have high resistance on the black side. Easy enough to swap leads and see if the black plug clears up and the other goes black.

Or maybe just try fresh caps and/or plugs.
The box just triggers the primary, unlikely that's the cause if only one side is bad.
