Curious... F16 is not built to withstand carrier landings, doesnt have a hook, is (generally) not piloted by a Naval Aviator trained in carrier approach and landing.Another close shave!
Russia doesn't own an operational carrier, let alone the 2 pictured. The Kuznetsov (it's sole carrier) has been in dry dock for like a gazillion yrs. and isn't capable of landing aircraft on it's deck.Curious... Although I don't have your background, even I thought it didn't look right either.Russia doesn't own an operational carrier, let alone the 2 pictured. The Kuznetsov (it's sole carrier) has been in dry dock for like a gazillion yrs. and isn't capable of landing aircraft on it's deck.
F-16's do indeed have a tail hook.
It's CGI.
I am sure there was a lot of escort (watchingI seem to remember a bit of a kerfuffle when the Kutzenov and a small flotilla of Russian vessels proceeded through the English Channel on its way to deploy off Syria a few years back. For them as don't know, despite the name, the English Channel is open for international shipping. But I suspect neither Britain nor France was very happy about the Russians sailing through.
Short field landing?F-16's do indeed have a tail hook.
No thrust reversers.Short field landing?
All US Air Force fighters have an arresting hook. All (most?) Air Force bases have a runway with a BAK-4 arresting system. They're used when the fighter has problems such as hydraulic/brake failure. In other words it's an emergency only system.Short field landing?
That is a pretty gentle pull, it looks like half a mile of arresting distanceUnlike Navy jets.. which can raise and lower the hook, Air Force jets can only lower the hook. Once it's deployed, the only way to raise it is one or two mechanics pushing it back in place.
