Just out of curiosity - Airplane Guys

Hey Gary, what’s FOB? To me, It’s Fuel On Board.
I think at the time I put it up it was friend of ??? it was a sneaky (banned) political statement but HTG I no long remember what. (hint NOT FO Bill Clinton LOL)
yes freight on board or price before shipping is a common meaning.

Holy Crap.... youse guys ain't gonna believe how I spent my day...

Ready for this? I just spent the last 6 hrs changing a generator on a WWII P-51 Mustang!!! 😎
Guess I can tick working on a Mustang off the ol' bucket list.
The pilot stopped at the Downtown Airport for gas. When he cranked up to leave, the generator wouldn't come on line. My buddy Jeff was at the airport, so he offered to troubleshoot it. He shot it down to the generator itself, and the pilot/owner had one overnighted. Showed up about noon and we spent the afternoon changing it.

The pilot (Greg) was a hell of a nice guy. Ex Air Force like me... F-16's and F-117 Stealth Fighters. So we walked some of the same ramps and ate the same desert sand... we got along great.

Hot as fuck, windy as hell, Corporate jets blasting around us... sun beating down on a hot ramp.... I was in hog heaven! 😁

Greg just texted from Liberal Ks (fuel stop)... said the generator is working just fine. I'll take it. I'll get more pics up in a bit. Right now it's 5:30 an' I ain't eaten since about 7 this morning. I'm starving and still giddy from the days events. Here's a little teaser.

Awesome!! Is it an original RR, or the licensed version? I somehow thought there were very few that actually had original Rolls Royce engines in them? Maybe I'm wrong?!
The Packard and RR versions were identical and interchangeable. I suspect it rolled off the factory floor with a Packard, but who knows how many engine changes (interchanges) it's had over the years. Right now it's an official Rolls Royce Merlin pullin' it along.

Winds were from the NE at about 20-25 kts and gusting, so they sent him to rwy 19, about a mile and a half away from where we were. My phone can't see that far
Sun was so bright I couldn't see the screen. Add to that the fact that I absolutely suck at videos... and well, this is what you get as a result.

Well how cool is that! 😃 He should’ve let you sign your name on the cowling with a sharpie! So was it easier to work on than an F-111? 😁

I don't pop into this thread very often........ I read this.

Very cool, 😎😎.

Do you need to be a registered mechanic to do this??
