Blimey, that CD Howe chap seems like a bit of a ... awkward blighter....and another early jet - introduced by AVRO Canada just a few days after the DeHavilland Comet in 1949. The story goes that Howard Hughes flew it himself and wanted it for PanAm.
Yep thats what we do in our lunch break here!
Yes, over 80% of the thrust comes from the fan.I believe it's the evolution of jets. The more efficient units on planes now are huge hi-bypass turbines.
Sadly reported in the press this week; the Red Arrows are now down to 7 from nine aircraft. Internal disagreement between pilots and alleged marital affairs have soured the comradeship of this elite band of airman. Recruiting has been rushed to replace the displaced, so acrobatic manoeuvres in the air have been cut short. Unlike acrobatic manoeuvres in the bedroom......ahem!
BRISTOL BALLOON FESTIVAL
This annual event is a colourful spectacle.
All balloons take off from the Clifton Downs in Bristol.
Depending on the wind they fly over the Clifton Gorge and Clifton Suspension bridge; one of Brunel's greatest delights, opened in 1864.
Building started on the bridge in 1831.
