The house was built 1851 if my recollection is correct. It survived the siege as a hospital. This was a place of total war in 1863.
The civilians were living like "Gophers" in small caves and holes as one survivor said. The story and significance of Vicksburg is almost totally ignored by historians. The loss at Vicksburg was far more significant than the loss at Gettysburg in my opinion, as it gave the Union total control of the Mississippi river and cut off the Confederacy from the west. Sorry for the hijack, I'm a bit of a history nerd.

The next one is November 1, 2025. Mark your calendars, make a plan.
Plan early and you can do it as I do.

Bring your wife and stay at a place like this. My wife had a great time. She made a cameo appearance at the bike show and joined me for lunch, as I received a voucher for a free meal just for showing up with a bike.

50 deg late afternoon Eastern WA . Have a rare midweek opportunity to run about 25 miles is all but all good 👍
This cooler air is pumping power through the twin ! I backed out the mixture screws 1/2 turn as an experiment in cooler air and Wow 🤩 today the XS is really running good .
Pulled over for a couple late fall pics. A few nice red trees to see but no real access ..

I had maybe the last ride of the year. A loop north of town, over to the lake shore drive, into town and along the lake then back west through Kohler and home. The state built race tracks (Round-a-bouts) with my tax dollars so I managed at least a complete lap on each that I came to. In the first pic below, there is a frieghter off shore seems northbound. The lake was a bright blue and flat today with a gusting west wind.

All summer, nothing. Now, I’m getting emails about organized rides. January gets cold, but my bike doesn’t get pickled. The cotton just got picked. @Raymond keeps one winter bike. It’s all of the runners for me. The worst thing to contend with is the low in the sky sunshine.

The low in the sky sun does two things that bother me. First, it seem to be in my field of view all the time. Second, as it shines through much more atmosphere, more so here in the north and the light becomes very "flat" with far less contrast.

Sometimes I feel like I’m South of the equator, here in Arizona, still in the 80’s, riding season for me is just getting going. Had it out a couple times this last week for some two hour rides. Just skirting along farmland roads. Nothing worth photographing.

We want road kill photos!!! Going to Arkansas, @Ben! wanted to throw interesting road kill on the trailer just to "plant it" in Minnesota to confound the Highway Deparment clean up crew.
