For the past five or six years, every winter, I wish I'd bought a car.
It's getting to the point now where I just don't go out in the cold except when driven by necessity as I've run out of essentials.
Wow, does that mean, @Grimly, that you are another like meself that doesn't own a car?

(Confession to make - I have owned cars in the past. But I'm completely over that now.)

Hey @Mailman Buell: Opened up the (3rd) muffler flap actuator. (had to drill out the plastic retaining studs). little to no grease inside. Long story the actuator I bought is a Dorman replacement for a ford intake control part.............
Back together and zoom zoom! Motor runs so poorly with the box stuck I think the control module falls back to some base line fueling setting. We'll see how long it lasts this time.

Wow! That sounded complicated, not sure I could’ve figured that one out. :umm:

Yeah, been Two Wheels Only since 2012.

Sold my Skoda Pickup in about 2007-8.

No car since then, but I can borrow Mrs' wheels when required.

I had two cars and two motorcycles for the longest time. Now I’m down to one each. At times the garage seems a little bare. 🙄

Many members here enjoy several options when going for a ride. Many member here have a lifetime of riding, Kudos to each. I took a pause as my (adopted) girls were growing into fine young ladies. I re entered riding 3 years ago and enjoy every mile (1.3km) that I am on my bikes.. I enjoy riding my old town and surrounding area but much of it is straight roads through 40 acre (40 acres and a mule) farmlands. In the 30's the alphabet agencies (CCC, Civilian Conservation Corp. etc) did a bunch of local projects all across the US. I like to idle through a CCC project City Park occasionally. Here, my bike backset by a new bridge replacing the one I grew up with. The old one was much aesthetically better.

Nice photo! 👍🏻
I think there are a lot of us in that same boat. I rode motorcycles all through my teens and early twenties, but when my kids were born I took a twenty year hiatus while they were growing up, then picked it up again when I was almost 50. That was twenty years ago and I still love to play with motorcycles. 😄

Although I rode friends' bikes ( a BSA Rocket 3, a CB750, a Ducati 750SS) once or twice as a young man, I didn't start riding a bike of my own until well into my sixties ... and that was driven by my wife's purchase of her Yamaha BWS! I have, however, owned my XS650D since the early '90's, but never actually rode it. Pics of my latest ride the other evening (shot at a familiar location that I've posted before)... it was still close to 90*F at the time. River pics are from a scouting trip done on four wheels, in search of new riding roads. There is a well-groomed gravel road that runs right next to the river for a substantial distance. Going to ride it soon!

Took the sporty round my favorite 15 mile loop, from the shady bridge watched kids fishing in the creek, they caught 2 bluegills. Then on the safe part 2 miles straight took the beanie off and ran her up to 95 MPH on the clock. It's a bit over 100 F . All these stupid laws are disgusting. The straight is almost always a cop free zone. Filled the tank... put her back in her slot.

Got out for an hour and a half Sunday meandering around with no destination.
Hot but threatening rain.
Stopped at Point Lookout for a smoke and took a pic.
Supposed to be a five state view. Maybe see three county's with that haze.

tasty scooter, brother. Nice pipes too! Mine's quite similar.

John, What you Sporty? I like it!
Thank you 40north, drgonzo.
The pipes are for the deer. 4;20 am is leave time for work.
Lots of farm land with tons of deer. No respect for the stock pipes at all,
now if they don't care about me coming their way a blip on the wick and all I see is white tails leaving.
Seriously increased my mileage also with no changes to the bike.
Straight running she's respectful, I really try not to piss of the neighbors.
drgonzo. It's an 86 XLH. Titled as an 883 and that's what it says on the jugs.
I don't believe it, wayy too fast for an 883.
It's definitely been worked on in the past, mismatched parts, hardware and gaskets.
No real history on the bike, pretty beat up when I got her but a steal at $1.600
Haven't done much to it since I got it 3 yrs ago.
Typical maintenance and elbow grease.
Bigger primary, smaller on the rear, new tires, the pipes. the risers and highway pegs and the tote bags.
Changed out the solo seat. When she blows up I'll measure the jugs and finally find out what I've been riding.
Then a full rebuild.

It's not really meant seriously, but when it comes to the deer problem, I completely agree. Motorcycle rides through dense forest areas, especially at dusk, is extremely dangerous here. There are a lot of accidents. In hot weather I love to ride in shorts and t-shirt, but when it comes to this topic I really feel more comfortable when the bike makes significantly more noise than normal cars that the deer are already used to. I'm a real scaredy cat here ... reason enough for an XS1 or 2 😂
