Just Ride.

Wow! tire scorching horsepower!
OK, it's a geezer or dwaddle around bike, 26HP when new, widely spaced 4 speed transmission, single leading shoe drum brakes front and rear. Suspension is good, loving the Earles type forks. Hit the front brake and the bike rises. It'll hold 60MPH if there's no steep hills.

Gary I forgot what model that is. What year and model? An R50….R60? Slash 2? 🤔

Bike has been running decent so I took it on a little trip to visit a friend in Lake Tahoe, about 1,300 miles total.

I took the coast up and decided to leave on the day of a storm , it was a wet ride through the LA freeways, I was prepared.. The bike was starting to act up taking off from a stop, a lot of popping but would clear up.

IMG_1105.jpgIMG_1103.jpgIMG_1102.jpg

It cleared up after I passed Malibu, had a nice ride up the 101 to Morro Bay where I grabbed some diner for my campsite. First day about 300 miles, which is where I max out on this bike, butt turns to concrete.

Continued up the coast to stay a night at my mom's place in Pacifica, cozy little town below SF.

The next day was a straight shot on the 80 to Tahoe, actually Donner Lake to be specific. Spent a few days checking out the area and fishing off his back porch, I caught a monster..

Then started making my way down the 395, it was a cold morning out of Tahoe, but the scenery is awesome. I stopped by Convict Lake to take a quick look, I wish a stayed longer. There's so many cool spots along the 395 to stop and explore. About 275 miles is Lone Pine, so I camped in the Alabama Hills state park, love that place.

Next day I enjoyed the last bit of 395 until I hit freeways for the rest of the ride.

IMG_1277.jpg

The bike was pretty smooth at highways speeds holding 65 with a little extra, but once I got up to elevation, around 7k, it was losing power. At sea level I can pull uphill at 65 in 5th, at elevation I lost 5th completely and started to lose 4th going uphill. I think my bike needs some tuning though, its got a flat spot off idle. Oh and a few days before the trip my TCI box took a dump, it just breaks up really bad at 1/8-1/4 throttle, cant get past. I confirmed it by swapping with my gonzo box, which I used for the trip and worked fine.

I recorded here and there with my gopro but the audio is a little rough with the wind, maybe I'll put together a quick video.

Going on a road trip with a fresh top end... awesome!!!

They vary by box... piss poor quality control... but check the advance on that box with a timing light. I suspect you'll find it's not advancing as much as it should. When I'm using a gonzo box, I'll bump the timing up just based on advance. Play with it enough and you can get to 35° advance.

That will most likely get you some/most of your power back up high.

I lived in Tulare for about 3 years. Always loved going to Morro Bay.

New windshield for the Uly. 45 miles yesterday, temps in the upper 40's.

It's good! Got hot into a couple corners on a curvy county road, Then the light came on, my "autopilot setting" was up 10MPH cuz of the shield's wind protection, had to wick it back a bit from the 70-75MPH I was going.
Snow predicted this weekend which means the brine trucks are likely to roll tomorrow.

Nope!

Bringing this home, another 3 cords?

We also cut and stack for a bud's home heating. He doesn't have room to store much on his city lot.
Now gotta dig out, load, and get those 4) XS650's to Madison today.
