Interesting...
I have fiddled whith this bsa for 50 years. I bought it in 1974 and there are stories that could be told. The factory "flamboyant red" most of the time would fade to a brown/liver color before they could be sold. There is only a handful of mods other than paint, muffler, bars. In 1979 I tried to remove the oem paint with paint remover. Tough to get off, it was hell, but I got it painted at home with off the shelf rattle cans. (dark blue)
In 1984 I comissioned the cook at sammies pancakes to paint two bikes worth of tins the same color--so I would have extras-- midnight blue.
In 2005 I started thinking I'd like something remenisant of the original tank scheme and I came up with this red, white and blue on a third tank. So I have the original tank, (midnight blue) the extra that was painted back then (midnight blue) and a third I painted with color matched two part epoxy and a clear. I took some measurements of the oem design as I was sanding off the 70's metalic green that was on there. I tried to match it as best as I could at home. Those pin stripes are painted on right out of the paintshop's rattle can. Gees, with the 2 coats of clear and all the other over lapping colors, it must be pretty thick paint!

I have ridden this bike extensively over the years

Makes me want to get back to work on my 441 Victor.
''No time like the present'' said Dave to no one listening on the BSA shop floor; ''Then again we could just stop for tea and biscuits, its not like the Jap's are taking over anytime soon''

At which point the Japs invaded the UK and British biking was no more!

Get a move on @Jim

Pics from 2010. I rode my XS650SK the entire length of the Blue Ridge Parkway plus Skyline Drive. That's Cherokee, NC to Front Royal, VA. IIRC, the trip took four days. Lots of pics.

Two days in row in February.
Can't pass up weather like this. :geek:
Looked around the shed and the baby beemer waved back. She was last out in November.
Turned on the gas, tickled the carbs, set the choke, ignition on, one kick, and running. :bike:
KIMG2059.JPG
Wandered out in the driftless tromped around the woods about 4 miles. Trail crosses the stream 4 times, was little sketchy going across the ice, but mighty nice to be out and down to shirt sleeves while hiking.
KIMG2043.JPG
KIMG2044.JPG
Some green peaking out from melting drifts.
KIMG2053.JPG

There was a bridge LONG ago.
KIMG2057.JPG

KIMG2058.JPG
Lot's of sandstone faces, easier to see 'em with the leaves off.
KIMG2051.JPG
KIMG2060.JPG
Fired up and rode home as the sun was dipping behind the hills, glad it has a fairing.
This school house in the Baraboo bluffs got fixed up, painted last fall, was looking kind of sad the last time I went by.
KIMG2062.JPG
about 50 smiles on the bike. Fun little putt around. Have to wind her up pretty good before shifting the 4 speed going up hills. Not Zactly a rocket but it'll cruise 60, a great little back road explorer. It needs some fettling, carbs aren't dialed in yet, they're a bit crude.
