It’s a beautiful day! I started 2023 with a New Years Day ride. I did a loop from Coldwater to Holly Springs, Mississippi.

The house behind me is Walter Place. It is the home used by Gen & Mrs Grant during the Vicksburg Campaign. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Place_(Holly_Springs,_Mississippi)

The First Presbyterian Church building was under construction during Union occupation. The story says their pastor was asked to lead worship for the Union troops. He complied. Following that Sunday, the Union made use of the church as a stable.

One of the few buildings they didn't burn.

They didn't burn much if anything in Mississippi. Holly Springs is loaded with Antebellum buildings and houses. Mississippi faired far better than Georgia.
They pretty much destroyed Vicksburg though. I read a journal by one of the residents, she claimed many residents were living in dugouts as many of the homes were destroyed. by shelling from gunboats.

I recommend a visit to Vicksburg. You might be surprised how much remains. I've been several times in the short time I've lived in Mississippi.

1865..The last major battle of the Civil War General Johnstons forces sqaured off against General Sherman's. Johnston's army fled by nightfall after 3 days of fighting...Confederate forces were totally out gunned...

Refreshing to see history has not been deleted by a bunch of nannies that cannot accept the past as history...Many of the monuments around the country honoring the confederate Generals have been taken down by people who think just because they dont like it..it shouldnt be allowed to exist..👎

How do you like the Silver Wing
something like that might be a bike I could still ride some time in the future or hell right now too
I love it..It will keep up with much larger displacement machines..Very smooth..I dont have to pull a clutch lever or shift any gears..My arthritic hands love it...top speed is 112mph but I haven't taken it over 80 mph..It is a capable touring bike as well...The ergos are well suited for me.. Much difference over a motorcycle...with summer blend or ethanol free gas i can achieve 55 miles per gallon..Tank holds 4 gals...These were made from 2001 -2013..Mine has almost 93000 miles !

Startled by a sheep……of all things! o_O

Couple of days ago I went for a three hour ride through farmland to the south of me. I was cutting through this residential area, where folks live on multi acre properties and often have livestock, usually horses.
But….up ahead of me, just standing on the side of the road, was this sheep. It must have escaped somebody’s fenced property. It was just serenely munching on some weeds. I was riding rather slowly and this sheep didn’t seem the least bit skittish, but as I got right up to it, the damn thing jumped straight up and bolted like it was launched and I thought the stupid thing was going to crash right into me! I couldn’t help thinking…..of all the stupid ways to crash! 😳
