Kickstart

Trying to adjust timing by changing the cam chain tension is wrong. You correctly adjust the cam chain tension first, and then you adjust timing by rotating the points plate. Rotating the points plate counter-clockwise will retard your timing.
Having a cam chain that is too tight is bad. See my previous post in this thread.
If it was timing though would it still be hard to kick over with the key off? Because with key off it still kicks over insanely hard

tight or loose chain cannot alter iggy timing that much

kick it with iggy off, see if it's spark or just compression

report back and then we go to the lash adjusters, or not
Okay gonna try kicking it when i get off work tonight and will report back thanks for the ideas

With the ignition off it seems like it kicks over the same roughness as with the ignition on so that would mean its not a timing thing right?
Messed with cam chain tensioner tighted and loosens it and that didnt seem like it didnt much/anything for my hard kicking

The cam chain adjustment isn't going to change anything. The problem started when you set the valves. Adjust the valves on the left cylinder, roll the engine ahead one turn and check, are both rockers now tight or are they loose?

Adjusted the valves once more seems to kick over better still a bit hard gonna let the battery charge and try starting it see if it still kickbacks and backfires

Reset the point gap aswell seems to kick over even better with the reset point gap gonna get some gas let the battery charge and hoping she starts

correct, valve timing esp. intake closing too soon

recheck lash and as suggested compression before you adjust
Seeming to get a better kick after reseting the point gap and vavle lash but still getting kickbacks and backfiring out of carb cant get it to start

no iggy! how does it feel?
what's compression?
Now after adjusting the valves it kicks over with the ignition off it seems to kick over good it kicks over decent with ignition on seems to get stuck a little on tdc not sure what the compression on the motor is dont have a tester but am getting backfire out the carb and major kickback

Seems to kick over fine now still a little firm but when trying to start am only getting backfires out of carb and kickback think its timing related or valves kicks over same way with ignition on or off

backfiring with ignition off?
new one to me

kicks fine with iggy off and after adjusting valves again?
or it backfires with iggy off?

pick one
Doesnt backfire with ignition off backfires with the ignition on
Just out of curiosity did you do anything with the points wiring? Almost sounds like the leads are reversed although that shouldn’t affect it with the iggy off.
Ill try messing with the points wiring
