LastTracker Build Thread

I suppose that's where the old adage "they're never done" came from. By the way, what's the seat height as it sits? Will a guy with a 30" inseam, 5' 7" tall be able to put his feet down? You know us flat trackers are short, ergo my handle. 😆
The bike had a 350X19" front wheel-tire combo and there was a 1" lowering slug in the forks and the forks had a Old School Speed upper tree that also lowered the forks 1". The forks I replaced them with use a Cheney triple tree and stock length fork tubes. The replacement front tire is a 27X7X19", about 1" taller than the 350X19. The rear originally had a 400X18" tire and I replaced it with a 27.5X7.5X19" tire. The Radian swingarm is longer than the stock XS650 one and since I have to mate up to the existing shock length this puts a extra 1/2" lower at the axle so with the new tire and swingarm installed the seat height is 32" without any weight on the suspension and that`s after moving the front fork tubed up in the trees 3/4". I also noticed the side stand when extended with the bike in a vertical position is almost 3" from the bottom to the ground. Looks like I get to make another stand too.:shootme:

"Get to" vs "have to"... that speaks volumes.

Getting ready to tack weld the swingarm together. I polished the areas I won`t be able to get to after the loop is welded on. I`ll do the polishing on the outside of the swingarm after the welding. Only 1/4 done at this point, besides a cold front has moved in and a nice warm TV atmosphere sounds better than motorcycle stuff until it warms up next week. For some reason the LSD lights in my shop makes every pic Blue.:umm:

Did you mention you were going to radius the swingarm cross support for tire clearance? Also did you say you were going to chrome the whole back structure? Chrome looks great but something tells me keeping a chrome swingarm and all the associated tubing clean and shiny will be a chore unless the bike is a room ornament. 🤷‍♂️

Took the swingarm to the chrome shop and their nickel tank is down so no plating at this time.:mad: I tried every shop in Kansas City and none of them do decorative chrome anymore. I`m waiting on a call from a shop in Wichita and if that doesn`t pan out there`s one in Lincoln Neb. (maybe). The thought of doing all that work to prep for chrome and then sandblasting it again for powder coat is just not sitting well with me. The thought of packaging the swingarm up and sending it cross country during the Xmas season is out of the question too. Anybody got any suggestions?

Another chrome plating shop recently closed near me in Manchester. A fair sized city, no plating shop.

There's now only one plating shop open within a reasonable distance. That's one of the reasons I had some stuff plated recently. Another year or two and I expect it won't be possible at all.

I found a chrome plater in Cuba Mo. Highline Plating. Only $650 and they have a 3 Month turn around.:yikes::yikes::yikes: Give me a F**king break. Our shop here in Topeka would have been $175 and a 3 day turn around. I`m still looking but it might get powder coated the same as the frame, less than $100 right here in town. Our local powder coater does clear coat too but they didn`t recommend it for a highly polished surface as they had less than good results on polished aluminum. On the fence about this one.

Hey Halfmile, I had a chat with a gunsmith friend of mine and he told me cerakote is working just fine on polished parts. And he's using this brand quite a lot on rifle and pistol frame. It's though as a nail and available in clear coat as well.
Just in case the above mentioned address didn't fit.
