Left cylinder not firing?

I'm stumped. Got a 79 xs650. has a pma, mikes xs ignition, single coil, vm34 carb setup. Valve clearances are checked and good. Have spark at both plugs when pulled out and grounded against the engine. The carbs are brand new. Also tool them off and went through them and cleaned them. Seems like the left cylinder is getting gas. Compression was 150 on both cylinders with the throttle open. I pulled off the spark plug wire on the left, (ya i know, not supposed to do that) bike kept running. pulled off the right plug, bike died. Swapped spark plugs, same thing. swapped spark plug wires, same thing. Right exhaust is HOT, left is warm. Not sure why the left cylinder isnt running. What am I missing?

Is it about the valve timing?

Feel silly, but I figured it out. The gasket behind the intake manifold was coming apart and one side fell down blocking the gas from the carb
