Here's mine this morning. One cross threaded hole to fix on the left side engine cover. Then wait for the bits to arrive to fix the starter bendix problem.

I mean I'll replace all of the parts in the system - cable, release mechanism, shaft, bushing, ball bearing, plates, etc.
This bike is pretty bullet proof. Depending on mileage the clutch internals are likely pretty good. The actuator, cable and adjustment seem to be common problem areas. Clean, inspect and lube the actuator when you install a new lubed clutch cable and your gremlins may disappear. 😀

That's all part of the Krauser saddlebag set-up. It's pretty universal and can be adapted to just about any bike. Unfortunately, they don't make it anymore, lol. You just have to watch for used ones. I recently mounted another set on my '83 ......

I ran across these a couple years ago. They popped up on Craigslist for $45, for the complete set-up. I couldn't get over there fast enough to buy them, lol.

Well, as an 81 model, that's the nest egg among all that old iron 😂 And thanks! I actually bought the engine as a new part in 1985 - at that time, Yamaha threw out the remaining large stocks to make room. Since the motor was only driven by me and treated well (especially warmed up properly), it has never been apart. This bike rides like it came straight from the shop : )

That was a tough pic to get. A guy with a really heavy GF were going to the beach and I waited a long time for her to waddle out of frame.

Careful, she might be among the readership here and may take offense at your description of her displacement... just sayin' ;)!
