Here's mine this morning. One cross threaded hole to fix on the left side engine cover. Then wait for the bits to arrive to fix the starter bendix problem.
This bike is pretty bullet proof. Depending on mileage the clutch internals are likely pretty good. The actuator, cable and adjustment seem to be common problem areas. Clean, inspect and lube the actuator when you install a new lubed clutch cable and your gremlins may disappear.I mean I'll replace all of the parts in the system - cable, release mechanism, shaft, bushing, ball bearing, plates, etc.
Where did you get the framework for the panniers and the tail rack?Oh my, I'm afraid mine's not much more than a slightly modified stocker. It runs, rides, and handles nice enough for the way I use it .....

I like your style...
My "81 Special"...Well, as an 81 model, that's the nest egg among all the old iron And thanks! I actually bought the engine as a new part in 1985 - at that time, Yamaha threw out the remaining large stocks to make room. Since the motor was only driven by me and treated well (especially warmed up properly), it has never been apart. This bike rides like it came straight from the shop : )
Bloody love the look of that bike, and the loctaion KevinMy "81 Special"...View attachment 329643
