New to me XS2. Poorly repainted, noisy starter gears, needs a new coil, some rust. Love it.
I think all XS650 starters are noisy. The cogniscenti will correct me if I am wrong. The internals of our motors are based on 50's engineering and design practices and over built but with some 50's quirks. These motors are durable with basic maintenence. The drive system multiplies the torque before and in the transmission so we get clunky heavy shifting and clutch drag at stop lights is noticable. Do not despair, we learn a balance of adjustment and tolerance. Our reward is a delightful country road explorer. Enjoy

Lots of potential.

The starter clutch pins on my 78 will rattle if I don't have a fully charged battery. I had pulled starter off once and the power connection was stuck on hard and felt I was going to rip it apart to get the rust off so chickened out on a rebuild and put it back in. I had been trying to use the kick start only up until 2 weeks ago when I was troubleshooting an electrical problem.

Once it's sorted I will endeavour to use the kick start as much as possible. I've poorly repainted the original poor repaint. IMG_7577.jpeg

BTW, like you cats. Just lost my 17 1/2 year old Tuxedo named Molly on 12/21.
Sorry to hear about that. That's a good span of companionship though, considering.

The grey and white one has been with me since he was 2 weeks old, May of 2013. Stray/abandoned. Used to wander out into the garage and watch me work on the '77, but he got out one night and came back really sick the next morning. So his perusing days are over and he enjoys early retirement.

Orange one just "randomly" "appeared" one day when I was at work. Me and she who would eventually become the Missus just got our first apartment together and I remember telling her if we ever get another cat I hope it's orange. She claims that was me giving her the ok to go get another cat ASAP, as long as it's orange. I disagree to this day but I sure as shit wasn't gonna send the little guy back to Animal Control. That was back in September of '15, and we're still very, very, veeeeeeeeery slowly bonding. He's a mommas boy, only hangs out with me when my insomnia kicks in and it's 3am and I'm awake laying on the couch, but still better than nothing.
