Looking at Mag Drills - Vevor?

Amazon has 'em for way under that.

Can’t comment on the cheaper end. I’ve been using a Hougen for the last 8 years and it’s been amazing. I’d imagine if the cutters from a more premium brand will fit a cheaper drill it couldn’t hurt. I drill mostly 3/8-2inch with my Hougen Cutters.

Still gathering information, but the Big Question is will it stand up to occasional, relatively light use? Good ones like Hougen or Milwaukee start at $1000 and go up from there. That's definitely NOT gonna happen.

I've enquired about renting one for the main job I have in mind. Depending on what that costs, I might take a chance on a Vevor. If it costs $100 a day plus a 50 mile round trip to the rental store, dumping $175 on one I can keep makes sense.

It's been my experience that as far as tooling goes, the bad reviews and such come from folk who buy a "light duty" tool and put it in a job shop where it needs to work 10hrs a day. It'll fall on it's face 10 out of 10 times in that environment. Folks like us that are retired and have the hours to spend keeping a light duty tool, light duty get on much better. Ymmv.
An example is my metal chop saw. Bought it new about 20yrs ago for 30 bucks. Only needed it for one job and here it is still going strong 20 odd yrs later. It's light duty... and that's how I treat it.

This "main job". Not over the holidays by chance? Thinking " Bad Santa"

No, nothing weird...very...

Drilling holes in a Quick Attach plate. Have an idea to mount a sod roller to the front end loader on the Cabota but not sure it's going to work so want to bolt it vs. weld it. That way, if it's a flop, I'll still have the QA plate for my next brain storm.

Outside the box?
Watch for a used Milwaukee mag drill. Sell it on when done.
Move the drill press or the milling machine outside for this "one job"
smaller vertical mill could do it, just saying.
Start asking around, see if a local contractor will rent you their mag drill for a day. Larger plumbers, electricians often have one or a VACUUM mount unit.
Anymore would a plasma cutter work to make holes? mmm plasma cutter.
Weld something on, cut, grind the welds off it later?
I cut the wear bar off my 7' snow bucket to weld in a new one, that was a fine afternoons work with lightweight tools. Went through a bunch of 7" cut off wheels, both wear and breakage. The 7' Porter cable grinder held up fine, a 4" no name went in the garbage part way through. The 40 year old 120 volt snap on MIG was REALLY over worked that day. Bet I had to reset my panel breaker 15 times LOL.
Corded Milwaukee hole hogs can now be found CHEAP, I kept mine from construction days and it does serious drilling now and then.

I've spent the morning watching demo videos from people who's opinion I respect (mrpete222 and howeesmachineshop) and they say while you gets what you pays for, the Vevor is entirely adequate for occasional home shop use.

Still waiting for a response from the rental place, but I'm leaning heavily towards splurging on it.

I have a 1/2 inch Makita that's more than capable of drilling the holes, it's just a lot of work and a wrist-twister. Plus, any excuse for a new tool...:D

The 3/8ths QA plate is too big/heavy to wrassle with on the drill press altho doable in a pinch with some rigging. Benchtop mill is not even a consideration.

Arrived yesterday. Home Depot's "ship to home" option was much quicker than I expected.

Seems like a solid unit. I will say the Jacobs-style chuck is pretty cheesy. If I find myself using twist drills a lot (which I suspect will be the case) I'll get a better one.

As with most machines, it's the tooling that'll get ya. Got a set of mid-grade cutters on order. As I determine what sizes I'll actually use, I'll buy good quality individual cutters.

I also ordered a Morse Taper to Weldon Chuck adapter so I can use the cutters in my drill press.

Great looking drill - you can’t beat the price. Looking forward to reading your reviews on this piece.

Btw - I really had to scratch my head to figure out Deep Homo. lol,😂

You'll have to fill us in on performance. We have a Millwaukee where I work, but it's one of the cheaper ones that doesn't have an arbor that accepts 3/4" straight shank tools which most annular cutters use, only the Jacobs chuck, which while it opens to 3/4", doesn't hold as well and takes up a lot of vertical space. And for me the M brand gibs are always kind of loosey goosey
