Looking for thoughts and ideas on Helmets.

For years I have always worn full face helmets and used intercoms.

A few years back(2-3) we purchased a pair of Scorpion EXO helmets with their included intercoms.

Before that I had a HJC SY-Max III helmet and wife had a Nolan Helmet and we used SENA SMH10B intercoms.

I was pretty happy with the HJC helmet and SENA intercom but she wanted/felt we needed new helmets due to the ages of the old ones.

My biggest problem with the Scorpion EXO helmet for me is the wind noise especially when riding into the wind like this afternoon. On the ride out to lunch we were running with wind to our back so wind noise was not too bad. But on the way home even with volume set to max I was not able to understand much of what was being said.

Just looking for ideas on quiet helmets and good intercoms. I kind of know a persons head shape might make a major difference as to what helmet might be quietest. Also as we ride two up these days due to my Parkinson's condition would not need an inter-com with long range just good sound. Any ideas welcome.

I like Shoei helmets. Currently using a Shoei full face but have been looking at an open face. Not the cheapest option but high quality. I have also been happy in the past with Arai and Bell. But it's all down to what fits the best. Good luck finding one to suit. There's no substitute for trying them on.

Unfortunately I have no idea about intercoms.

For me, I have a long oval head, so choices are limited. Everything is secondary to fit.

I’ve had Arai helmets and my experience was that they are extremely quiet. That is extremely quiet on a naked bike. That quiet was destroyed by a windshield or fairing in my experience. Currently, I’m wearing an LS2. It’s very comfortable for me, but LOUD.

I don’t know how you can pick a quiet helmet without trying them in very expensive experiments. All of us have different heads.

All great comments! I like Shoei too, as I think they make a good helmet at a decent price. Currently running a GT Air 2. Supposedly integrates seamlessly with SENA, although I haven't tried that.

As has been mentioned, it's difficult to trial all aspects, especially wind noise, without taking the plunge.

I recommend Shoei Neotec 3 with integrated Sena Comms.

A bit spendy at £689.00 but quality counts. (Sena is extra).
Mrs C and I like the fit and finish; and the comms work really well.
Money well invested in my book.

I also have an HJC Rapha V2 Carbon

I keep in work for accompanied customer rides.
It a great light helmet with good features.
Also a bit spendy @ £699.99

They are really happy with the fit and quality.
