Kijiji had an ad - wanted XS650 - so I responded, the fellow said he wanted to do a hard tail and the purchase budget was $1000.00. I showed him pictures of my used to be crusty '78, but had second thoughts.
So back to the shed and brought down this p o' s project that I picked up in Parry Sound ages ago.

Matching number motor in a box. Frame has been pretty thoroughly detabbed including centre stand, so its appeal to me is limited. Plan is to bolt it together this weekend to see if it will run.
And yes, the other projects are unfinished, just taking a break from them.

On Casters
Just showing off. Brought the forks I selected up from the shed, then noticed that one of the studs holding the axle cap on was missing. Fortunately, the thread in the aluminum was still good so I took an 8mm bolt, cut off the head and cut threads on to it to match the other one. Set it in with some blue lock tight and all better.

No Centre Stand = Geezer Floor Exercise
Good fer yer flexibility, eh?
Today got the rear wheel and chain on, put on a set of exhaust pipes a la TT120, (po has extensively detabbed frame so only mounts left are mid frame), removed BS 34 manifolds in favour of BS38 since I have a nice fresh set of them ready to go on, installed a new clutch cable and draped the wiring harness over the frame before calling it a day.
I'm happy when I am assembling stuff.
This machine is going to be promoted as "ready for hard tail/brat" so I will be hooking up enough of the harness to see if the estart functions.

No Picture Today
The perils of buying a pig in a poke or a motor in a box. Starter spins without engaging, on kick over, cam chain adjuster pops out about an eighth of an inch.
Tomorrow will check all valve adjustments and do compression test, bolt on the carbs and see what happens.

Another good 4 hour day today. Examined the cam chain tensioner and see it is a type D with no damper washer, so will look in my spares box tomorrow to see if I have the bits to correct it.
The rear fender stay has arrived from Superjet for the '73, plus I just finished cleaning the carbs, so the blue bike will get some attention once the '80 is on the block.

Not bad for a lump someone painted white, eh?
This morning I put in the cam chain tensioner damper washer which seems to have gotten rid of the noise, well enough that I got to kicking it over to check compression. Nice results!
Going to put on a set of carbs tomorrow so even if it won't start it will look better for its sale pictures. Almost done.

Pictures for the Kijiji Ad
So there it is, put a set of carbs on it, but did not get it started, I am thinking spark, but need to move this on so I am finished with it.
Mrs. Lakeview needs her bay of the garage before it snows.
