Mailman’s Suzuki C50 Boulevard

Bob, curious if there is a forum out there for these bikes like we have here? Just wondering if there are other caveat’s out there to watch out for.
There is a website called VolusiaRiders.com , Volusia was what the bike was called before the name was changed to Boulevard.
The Website is pretty dead, it’s ok for resource material but not much interaction goes on there. They sold this bike for many years, popularity peaked about 12 years ago and the forum activity has since declined.
A couple possible known issues are premature cam chain / and cam chain adjuster wear, has occurred in some bikes. Not a lot.
Also an internal seal in the rear differential has been known to fail.
Those are the only reoccurring problems I’m aware of.

Attempted Tail Light Repair Part ll,

After letting the super glue set up , I started trying to clean up the inside of the lens where super glue had wicked into unintended areas, namely the sides of the lens that had a frosted appearance. I feared this would be challenging, but it turned out to be an easy fix, using acetone and Q-tips, I had it cleaned up in a jiffy.
Then on to the outside of the lens, the glue had penetrated the crack so well that it actually made its way onto the exterior. I used a headlight repair kit, that I already had. Progressively sanding the repair from 800 to 2000 grit, then buffing it with a plastic polisher. My first attempt, I could still see scratches from the sandpaper, so I sanded it again with only the finest grit, then polished it again, then after cleaning it, I sealed it with Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic spray. ( I’m gonna give that stuff a plug here. If you’ve never used it, prepare to be amazed )

So after I was happy with the appearance, I ran a bead of super glue around the perimeter and rubber banded the two half’s together and left it overnight.

The next day, I reassembled the tail light and installed it.

Then I ran to the hardware store and picked up some grade 8 bolts and lock nuts and put the rack back on. And just for overkill, I put red locktite on the nuts! 😁

So all in all, I’m pretty happy with the results. I was able to save the tail light and save myself $350 in the process. If you get within inches of it and look real hard, you can see a couple of small flaws.
Only the carpenter sees his mistakes

But I’m gonna go with Mikey on this and call ‘er good! 😉

I'm taking bets he has those bolts back off, the text filed off the heads and polished up before the weekend's over.......

And or goes back to get button head bolts...........

You know…….I do have a set of SS button head bolts that say A2-70 on the heads. I bought them and never used them, I’m not sure how hard they are. I do like that idea about filing and polishing those bolt heads though! 😉

The carpenter can no longer see his mistake
Good job!!

Mostly musing but it sure would be nice to see a full size bolt shank as the bearing surface on both those pieces of plate.
I get why full thread shank is common on replacement bolts but.............

The airplane side of me wholeheartedly agrees. In my old world good long shoulders was more the norm.

redacted—

My post was late to the game and was suggesting to use acetone to clean the inside…

Your post actually doing it and the others after had not shown up until after I posted…

Funny little glitch haha.

Looks like it came out great. Nice thing about being retired you have the time to do things like that. When I was working I probably would have just bought a new one!
Nah, I would have tried to fix that one also. Allways nice to save a few bucks if you can. In your case Mucho bucks

Yeah honestly I’ve always been a repairman at heart, mostly out of curiosity to see if I could do it. 😄

So you may remember that my set up for luggage was this trunk that I had on a previous bike, it was great while I was commuting because it easily hauled all my work stuff, but on my cruiser it always looked like a BBQ kettle hanging off the back, 🙄

I wanted a more classic cruiser look, I always liked the set up I had on my old Triumph, so I decided to try and emulate that look.

So I ordered a set of Viking saddlebags, they’re nice bags they are leather with inner stiffeners so the bags won’t sag, they come with a set of mounting brackets and a ( rather flimsy ) lock to discourage lazy thiefs. 😄

So then to complete the look, and because I ride solo all the time and don’t need a rear seat, I installed a rear fender rack.

I‘m happy with the way it came out, I got the look I was shooting for. The bags are big enough to haul a couple bags of groceries in each. I’m also very happy with the quality of the Viking bags. Being that they were universal fit, the installation was quite fiddly. You have to hold one bag up where you want it, mark the holes and drill the bag, then transfer the hole markings to the other bag and drill it, and remember to keep enough clearance from the exhaust. It took me a while.
But now I’m good to go! 😉

Looks great. Those should do the trick. My '05 Road King Classic has similar bags and unless I'm taking a trip of more than 2 nights, I can get everything in them. Happy trails.

Thanks! I think I’m gonna be really happy with them!
Super! I love the look; big improvement in style.

And... I'm thinking it won't break/lose bolts and fall off and shit;):bike:

Thank you! Yeah I think it looks way better! And yeah, hopefully these will stay put! 😄
