Manual says to use yamalube 20w 40 but only see it in marine stores

The choice is 10w 40 or 20w 50 in motorcycle yamalube all purpose but they have 20w 40 in marine stores. Should I buy marine yamalube or just do 20w 50 yamalube? I'm in South Carolina so it's just as cold as it gets hot here too. Someone said there manual said 20w 40 or 20w 50 but mine just says 20w 40.

20/50 the manuals were printed before 20/50 existed.

I'd be happy to use either, but I would make sure what you use is JASO MA2 as that's the correct spec for wet clutch motorcycle engines.

FWIW I'm using a 10-40 semi synthetic at the moment.

Ok cool before stuff existed including me. It's funny they only market the 20w 40 for boats unless I over looked it. I'll get some yamalube brand and spend a few extra for piece of mind and cause I don't know enough but now I guess I do know enough. y'all just taught me. Piece

Any high quality motorcycle spec 20W-50 will work i.e. Mobil 1, Motul, Liqu-Moly, Royal Purple, Lucas, Castrol, Amsoil, aso. But as IBALT mentioned, JASO MA2 compliance is important, as it means correct clutch action.

Question for the oil gods? I got a 69 dt1 endro I'm oiling up too. It calls for 10w 40. Would I be better off using 20w 50 in it? The 20w 50 is thicker right? I had a bad oil leak but think it's just an old gasket. Would the 20w 50 be less leaky cause it's weight? I already own a quart of 10w 40 for it though.

Anyhow on endro I'm having heck putting on new tires... Maybe the old spokes are poking threw rim stop or spoons punching tube cause IV done tried two tubes now. I'm having heck with the clutch worm adjustments on it too. I had to hold it from backside with plyers to get it lose or it would just spin left... I'd say the xs650 is easier and harder to work on at same time. But really the rim locks on an endro kill my tire skills. Everyone so far tells me to take em to a shop. I might try taping the spokes instead of using rubber or use both. I got one more tube to try when my friend gives me back my tire spoons. Hope it's a go. I'm gonna repair tubes I got. I guess I need to pin point the leaks. Anyhow IV put on a 20inch moped tire before with no spoons so I never thought endro tires would be holding me up. Might put a chain on wrong year rim I have just to see if I can get the clutch to roll over. It's a miracle to get her running again. She's on her 5th bore now. Needed a rebore to get going. Anyhow I'm on Yamaha endros forum too trying to master three vintage bikes.

I'd be looking to see if spokes are showing through the nipples inside the rim. Suggest you grind any you find flush to the nipple with a Dremel and fit a new rim tape.

I'm curious about the marine engine Yamalube. It isn't JASO MA2? I wouldn't use it if it isn't. Potentially clutch problems. Why take the risk? There's many compliant oils around, any of them will be fine.

FWIW I just buy the cheapest JASO MA2 engine oil I can find. 10-30, 10-40, 20-50 I'm not fussy.

I gonna get yamalube AP 20w 50 for xs650. A gallon is 37. Just wondering cause now I'll have both for the dt1. Any thoughts on Is the 20w 50 any less leaky? Or I'm I crazy. Once it heats up it gets thinner too I imagine. Don't know though. I'll ask on dt1 forum since really a dt1 question. Thanks a lot
