How to install? Or how to “set”, or adjust, it’s voltage output? In order to adjust, you pull the cover, loosen the lock nut (on bottom if memory serves) and use a multimeter to gauge voltage at battery, adjust screw accordingly. Spec (I BELIEVE) 14.5 volts NO HIGHER @ 3000ish rippems. Once adequate voltage is attained, retighten lock nut and replace cover.
Do a full set of electrical maintenance as a first step, clean de-corrode any and all wire connections, check voltage drop, clean, rebuild, ignition switch, etc. Test and load test battery. Double check your volt meter accuracy, check voltage at battery terminals. Confirm operating voltage with a voltmeter at battery terminals. I keep a test voltmeter with a 3' harness and plug to fit my charging pigtail that I can place at the handlebar for this reason.
