Melted Ground Wires from Rectifier

I have seen several post about bikes with melted ground wires between the rectifier and the grounding post near the coil. Generally, I'm seeing suggestions that poor ground connections are causing the problem. My question is for those who have actually fixed the problem. Did just replacing the wires and cleaning the connections fix the problem or did wire melting cause other electrical components to go bad and need replacing?

For those who have actually fixed this issue, was replacing the melted ground wire and cleaning all the ground connections enough to solve it permanently?
Most of the discussions I’ve found point to high resistance at the ground connection causing the wire to overheat, but I’m curious about real-world repairs. If your ground wire melted, did replacing the wiring and restoring good grounds fix everything, or did you end up finding damage to the rectifier/regulator, stator, battery, or other electrical components that also needed replacement?
I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who’s dealt with this firsthand.
