noted for interesting and off beat yootoob tech shorts has been pumping up Mesh networking an an off grid fully encrypted messaging network that is independent of big tech's, or government's tentacles.
So use your phone or puter, put up a small solar/battery transceiver somewhere high on your property to access and expand the network and go.
Just enough interested to start looking, and being "just a touch anti-authority" thought I'd see what anyone here knows/thinks about it?

Interesting idea. It seems fairly limited in its usefulness

I’m a bit wary of the security of such a method of messaging. Sure the encryption sounds great in theory, but if the idea is to be secure from big tech’s spying eyes, then using apple or google’s hardware on either end of the network especially to share/setup encryption keys seems like a potential compromise of the integrity of security

It's very similar to GMRS. Line-of-sight dependent, operates in the 902-928MHz frequency range (LoRa, or Long Range transceiver network). Fairly limited data capacity, but sufficient for basic communication. Can operate in simplex or duplex (LoRaWAN) modes. The REO trucks that are being developed may include LoRa transceivers as an option. GMRS can also support some data packet transmission, although more limited than LoRa.
Check out Meshtastic or MeshCore.
