Mikey's new to him 73 650

Jim' assembly is missing part #12, which holds the damper at the desired stiffness. #17 is just a thin washer, and 16 is a little rubber washer, and I think they both might be at the very bottom of the rod in Jim's pics, otherwise you can scrounge or make them
All there now. Thanks William! 😁

All parts fich service manuals and some assembly manuals are linked to in the ID thread. All are off thexscafe site.

2M got that PDF from there.

This post should b in the rant thread. The amount of times I have referenced the ID thread to long term members make me wonder how anyone finds this site. If you are interested the link is a sticky in the garage and in the tech menue

Rant over.

Good find Mikey.

Well back at it a bit
A few days ago I got in the mail the dampner assembly ( Thanks Jim ! )
And a new to me left side cover bolt should be headed this way
And I ordered the tapered bearings and seals for the steering neck and for the forks new seals for the top and dust caps
I'm going out to see a mechanic I know today and talk to him about installing all the new parts and sync carbs
I know I could do all that myself but... But my no confidence, failure rate is high ( the guy doesn't charge anywhere what the dealer would and he knows old bikes )
Okay take a look at the pictures of what I think are the manufacture dates of the tires I'm not sure I,m looking in the right place
Anyway it's gonna need new tires and I'll continue to do the general maint. stuff
And SOB I believe it's a keeper
Last picture is from Mailmans thread showing the bearings and seal he ordered

Was back out in the shop yesterday and opened up the airboxes ( looks like maybe the original air filters ? )
Pulled the plugs and the plug cap and plugs are both resistor types ( might be why it doesn't want to run quite yet )
emptied the tank and put some fresh fuel in there / new gas lines so far the taps don't leak and I have gas into the carbs
Stole non insulated caps off the 77 and the AP63 resister plugs got what seems to be good spark but no go
Thought I would just squirt a little gas in each cylinder and try again but ...nothing but wet plugs
On the bright side this starter sounds the best of any 650 starter I've come accross ( just cranks and doesn't kick out or rattle )
Walked away from it to fix the old wall clock ( hey look a squirrel )
Back out today and time to just pick away on it
Anyway lots of verbage and little on the picture end
Just a quick question I'm trying to source the light weight spring gas line clamps and don't want to buy any online until I know what size
The fuel line appears to be 3/8 but I'm sure it's probably a metric size line
And since I have an entire spool of safety wire I guess i can use that and not get caried away with tightening
edit: kinda like these clamps

Yup! Those are the rotted paper air filters. You can still get replacement filters ( I believe ) but the easier thing to do is cut all that old paper away and there is a steel cage underneath it. Buy a sheet of filter foam and wrap around the cage. You don’t have to buy that special filter oil. I did and didn’t like it, it’s waaaaay sticky. Just a light application of light weight motor oil or oil mixed with a little gas to thin it, and squeeze it into the foam.

As for those fuel line clamps, I’ve certainly used clamps and safety wire, but what I finally wound up using is Tygon fuel line. It’s nice and stretchy, you can push it on and take it off without any clamps at all, it just holds. 2M put me on to it.
I used to get it from EBay,

That's what I'm using now the Tygon line
I'm just anal about fuel lines need a clamp
You have to work to get it on and off it's a very good fit

Quick question
The guy that is getting the 73 up and running suggest I get some new carburetor diaphragms for the carbs
Who is a good source I know I've bought some that were made by ?? using block of uncured rubber ?
I know in the past the ones I got were of excellant quality I just can't remember the name of the place
I see neiche cycle sells them I'm just wondering if there is a better quality source is all

I know I haven't posted much about this one but...
With the help of a trusted mechanic to do the things I just don't get. and me wrenching on the things I can't screw up and shine and buff and polish
I am selling ( it's actually sold ) my 73
Come the 30th in will be leaving here to go to LA and from there on a boat to Australia
Real nice guy named Noel ( I'll get him hooked up here once he gets the bike )
With the shipping cost / money coversion fees / and whatever it takes to get it off the boat in Australia the cost have to be in the $1000's
He's a trusting lot as he's sent me the money via PayPal and were working out where to send the title to in LA
I've been continuing to downsize a lot
Old video arcade games etc.
Anyway heres a few pictures of the final results and of the buffer I bought to help me do the mr. shine thing ( go Blue Magic )

When I get time next week or so I'm going to sort through some of my excess parts and maybe move them out the door too

And as a side note
Anyone looking for an arcade game / jukebox / handcrank Edison phonographs I'm the guy to see
( shameless plug )
Most of them all work great but they all just sit and the kids after us old farts were done playing with them now have grandchildren including me
Who have NO interest in anything that you can't hold in your hand and play with for hours on end
