I have decided to run a thread on my newly acquired MINI Cooper S here.
More of a way to log and timeline any developments with the car going forward; more for my reference than 'owt else.
All interested parties are welcome to comment as and when.
Cheers

I loved mine. Not an S but it got me thru trade school, and was able to tow a small uhaul from Chicago to Fresno and back again. Used to tow a motorcycle trailer too from Phoenix back to Fresno when my old man offloaded his '77 XS on me. Probably would've had that car for many more years except some moron didn't notice a stop sign, nor the car between said stop sign and her car.

Friend of mine got this factory build mini race car, it even have build in jacks to keep it off the floor when in storage, was imported from Sweden and somehow he managed to get tags on here in FL. It’s extremely fast - only one seat - no passenger seat and rigged with all the safety bars etc on the inside. So fun to drive!

I don't know about the others, but the R56 turbodiesels give the little car an extreme boost with their high torque. They're fast as hell, especially the Cooper Diesel. I was even offered a very nice one in red and white, but back then our politicians went completely crazy again and wanted to ban diesels in all cities :cautious:

My wife wants a mini very bad. She wants the larger Countryman edition though. My only concerns are maintenance cost and longevity of the newer models. I know nothing about them.

Countryman ain’t no Mini in the true sense of the word. It’s pretty big for a Mini.
Front end is similar to the Gen 1 R50 but thats about it; No doubt it is more modern. But the packaging in the engine bay is very tight. Servicing is difficult even for a competent home mechanic (me) as the whole front end has to come off to deal with the clutch etc. Don’t forget it’s a BMW underneath with BMW costs. A ford Focus is a better bet; reliable, cheap, and a good drive.

We had a Cooper S as a kid in the 60’s I loved that car but it always seemed to be in the shop, mind you the Jag we got next was in the shop a lot, in 67 we got a left hand drive mustang I remember it feeling so weird riding around Oxford.
