Getting there.
First image was this morning, the others are knocking off time this afternoon.
Really just one more block of mini-connectors for the turn signals, plus connectors for the headlamp.
Then see if the bloody headlamp will fit back on without pulling everything apart.

I think your headlight bowl is considerably better organised than mine. I see there's two wiring holes at the top of the headlight shell you have, my 77 650D has just one central hole near the top. Seems to make things a lot neater with two holes.
And, guess what? When I put my headlight back in this morning. It didn't work. Took it out fiddled with a few bullet connectors and it worked again. Not sure I 100% trust it, but it'll never get ridden in the dark anyway.

I seem to recall that @Raymond is using an XS750(?) headlight shell which would have different holes and offer a little bit more room; I have an XS850 shell for the same reasons.
The only thing I might worry about is having the mini connectors clustered in the center at the back... exactly where the headlight clearance is most critical.
Understood. I have to tease the spaghetti mess of wiring out of the way to put my headlight back in the shell without anything getting in the way. I guess every XS650 owner knows that ritual.
Yup, you gently spread the gubbins and press it gently back. And as said, hope to fit the headlamp without anything being popped out. @Wagner73 you're right, it's an XS750 shell for the little bit of extra space.

My '77 headlight had 3 holes...large on the bottom and to smaller ones on top.
Mine might be upside down? I never considered that. It's just how it was when I got the bike. But when I think about everything else I found wrong, that wouldn't be a surprise one tiny bit.
Edit - it can't be upside down, or the screws would be near the top rather than the bottom. It must be the right way up.
I think the adjustment lug would be a bit of a giveaway if that wuz at the top?
Yeah, it just dawned on me, it's been a long day.
You have to have at least 2...one on top and one on the bottom. If you stll have the original main wire harness, it won't stretch to the top of the headlight shell.
Sorry @MrBultaco Missy's original main harness is a distant memory . . .
Just a thought - trying to replace one or more of the idiot light bulb holders. Because they sit a rubber molding, they incorporate a crimp for the ground wire. I believe this is called a flylead bulb holder?

I've bodged the old un - it'll be fine. So close now but experience says, time to knock off for the day. Those little last jobs are best approached another day when ahm feeling fresh.
