The Daytona 500 was one of the finest handling bikes of its time, better reputation for reliability than the 650's. Lucitis, yes.... I recall a Norton Electra 400 that came into the shop where I worked with a charging problem. The boss was a certified Norton mechanic, and one of the other part-timers was a graduate University of Illinois electrical engineer padding out his research assistant's stipend with a little work on the side. Every discrete component checked out fine; put 'em together and there was no charge. After about 40 shop hours of frustration, that's what the boss told the owner: "We can't fix it. No charge."

Ha! I say HA!
Like an XS650 fuse box, some bullet couplers in the headlight shell were crumbling! Fixed and rode, all is good. Not that it's needed o_O but added a handlebar voltmeter. ;) Idles nicely, just a little more settings work and she'll be really good. With a battery installed, got three one kick starts in a row....
All hail Prince Lucas!
Note the stock bike will start and run WITHOUT a battery...
