Need second opinion on pesky gremlins

I have an additional question for anyone who might know.

The bike has pod filters so the crank case breather above the carbs doesn't have anything attached. Could I run a hose to a T splitter then to each vacuum port (inline filter too maybe) on the carb boot to lower crank case pressure while also not letting the stuff coming out collect on the engine?

Just an idea I had while staring at the empty cavity where the carburetors where.

I have a feeling that would just act like a big vacuum leak - but I could be wrong. I've heard some people run the breather pipes to the front sprocket to act as a sort of automatic oiler, although methinks they may have been only partially serious...

Maybe you could add little vacuum pipes to the pod filter attachment point, between the clamp and the filter?

I've never heard of anyone connecting the breather hose to the vacuum ports. If it was a viable mod, I'm sure someone would have posted about it here on the forum, but I've never seen anything about it. What many of us do is put a one-way valve on the end of the breather hose. This lets pressure out but not back in, and that can create a slight vacuum in the cases. That supposedly has a couple of benefits - #1 - it can reduce the likelihood of oil leaks and even stop small ones you may already have, and #2 - it may give a small power increase because it can help the rings seal better. Kind of a win-win situation I'd say.

You can't use a PCV valve because they have a ball bearing inside and apparently it can't move quickly enough to match the engine's pressure pulses. It will get stuck open or closed. So, we use a power brake check valve. It has a rubber flapper inside and apparently that will work OK. You can get these at most auto parts stores for around $5 ......

The inlet side fits the stock breather hose perfectly. Then, poise it over your pod and any oil or oil mist that may come out will just be recycled through the motor .....

And if your breather hose is original, it's probably all hardened up. You can get new (nice and soft) thin walled replacement hose, an exact match to the original, here .....

And it's also a good idea to use the protection/anti-kink spring on it.

Perhaps at some point in time you could remove the alternator cover and rub some very fine wet and dry over the ignition pickup magnet.

Enjoy your bikes...:hump:

As a newbie to these bikes, what does this do?

A dirty ignition timing magnet may cause intermittent ignition issues.

Hello all! I'm so sorry for taking so long. Life became chaos.

She lives!

The fuel lines were infact the root issue. After replacing them and adding a filter. It's been running strong like she used to. Pulls hard and loud. And makes me grin like a fool!

She's now been running for a few weeks and has had 0 issues. I wanted to wait at least a week to see if the issue would crop back up and it hasn't. 😎

Here's a photo from an adventure I took her on went exploring off the beaten path. (Before these issues but looks the same)

Carbs need to be resynced obviously but haven't had a chance to do it yet but being careful to not let her sit. 😎

... although I just lost my gas key. Anyone have any ideas? I don't need a locking lid truthfully. And separate keys is what caused me to lose it. (Long story)
