Looks like another alternative. Kind of pricey. $100+ more than a Boyer.

  4. Yeah, think the price is Australian dollars, so there might be some savings for US customers.

It also lists that the box is repairable, so that is a bonus over some existing offerings.

My buddy’s dad has Tri Sparks on all his British Bikes and swears by them.

Tri Spark has a very good reputation with the British bikes. No reason it would not be a dependable ignition for the XS's. ok I have to admit if someone touts their stuff is easy to repair I have to wonder why? Who is going to repair it? Sending it back down under and shipping back would not be cheap or quick.

It amazed me when i was looking for a electronic ignition for my British triple. Only 30,000 or so engines made, yet there were 6 I think choices. 100s of thousands XS650 engines made and only a couple choices. It may have to do with what people were/are willing to spend on the respective bikes.

That looks like a very nicely made unit!

Yeah I’ve noticed that same thing. The aftermarket support for British bikes is amazing.

for the most part, it seems people who are into 70s Japanese motorcycles (2 strokes excluded) are pretty cheap. It can be hard to find a market for premium parts in a market that’s thought of to be cheap (relatively speaking).

with British bikes it seems there is enough of them to create a strong market, but not so many they are thought of as cheap. (Dime a dozen for sale)

they also seem to have a lot of sub culture image associated with them which Japanese bikes don’t have and that means people will pay to be a part of the culture.

I like the look of the Tri Spark timing plate. It's very robust, no flimsy, thin, partially supported fiberglass to flop around in the breeze (yeah, I'm talking about Boyer). Sounds like the Tri Spark has good spike protection, too.

Re. cheapskates and Jap bikes, the guys who pay big bucks for cosmetic treatments while they pinch pennies on essential systems never cease to amaze me. Mark Whitebook's Probe ignition was originally developed for his own XS650. It was a premium system, designed and made in the USA for a number of Japanese motorcycles. Mark had to drop the ignition from his company's offerings because not enough customers were willing to cough up an extra $50 or so for a quality American product. If my Probe ignition ever fails, Tri Spark will get an order from me.

British vs Japanese aftermarket ignitions prolly can be summed up in one word; Lucas.
    Why replace working parts?
