I don't know what direction I am taking on this yet, probably a Cheney hard tail flat track frame. I raced a non-framer XS in the early 70s among several others. Sponsored a little kid on a loner Suzuki 100 shop racer, name was Roberts. He wound up doing ok with Yamaha. I'm too old and lame to build cars anymore so I am building custom one-off bikes. I had been waiting for some time to find a good deal on an XS and I finally did. For reference I also have a 550 Seca with a combination of GSXR suspension and wheels that is moving in the direction of a retro-cafe racer with considerable improvements. A 1934 Harley dirt tracker inspired project using a Highly modified LS650 power plant. Another LS650 based hardtail, springered 50's bobber/ a 74 XL175 with a beefed-up engine and modern dirt-bike suspension, seating and fenders and finally a KX400 with street tracker treatment. I have a well-equipped fabrication shop at home and also a full wood working shop. What I lack these days is energy. Ha! So, there it is, I am happy to be on board. I do have a question I live in North County San Diego, and I have not been able to find any motorcycle shows or clubs related to custom builds. A few Harley centered things pop up but nothing for innovative builders. I haven't run across any XS650 people either. S0....if anyone knows of anything interesting out there in So Cal or Maby Vegas let me know.

Welcome to the forum. You are definitely in the right place for information on the XS platform. I think you will find you are among many in the same age demographic here. There are some highly skilled mechanics and fabricators lurking here, as well as many ham-fisted meatball mechanics (me) too. A wealth of tech info in the tabs at the top of the page, but you will also find many here willing to lend advice or guidance. Oh, and I am sure you will hear from others... we love pictures here.

Welcome aboard.
We are all willing to help and offer advice; (just dont take my advice cos it will cost ya! see my build thread :lmao:)
We are a community of well meaning enthusiasts; and plenty of knowledge is on hand for the asking.
Plenty of pictures and concise questions will get you results.
Also check out the 'technical section' for much words of wisdom, answering many questions of the past.
Looking forward to your progress.

I think to answer the question may be what is wanted.
Apparently, the answer was found.
