New to forum

Hello all, new to the forum. I recently purchased an xs650 hardtail project from a friend. I am eager to get working on it but figured I’d hop in here first. The bike I have doesn’t have a title (however I do have a doner frame with a title) but I did look up the serial number on the engine and found that it is an 80-81 XS-H special II. The carbs that are currently on it look like mikuni cv carbs. He told me they may have come from a kz750. There are a couple of pod filters in the box but they look pretty dirty to throw on. Here are a few pictures so far, they aren’t the best, will get some better ones soon. Anyways, what should I know about these carbs (if some one can help me id them)? What air filters should I have? And how do I go about balancing and tuning them? Thanks for taking time to read guys. Much appreciated.

Red circle: That's the pickup for a TCI ignition system. That started in 1980
Yellow circle: BS-34 carb. That also started in '80.
Green circle: choke knob: Used in '80 and '81. In '82 they used a handlebar mounted choke lever.

I think we can safely say that's an '80, '81 motor.

Have a look in the TECH section (button top of page). There's tons of good info.
