Whats up everyone? I just wanted to show you guys this 1980 xs650 I just picked up today. I was actually looking at an 81 xs400, but the guy was out of town till this upcoming weekend. It was really clean with 8500 miles on it listed for $2400. The XS always intrigued me but never owned one, and I would have liked a 650.
Ended up coming across this newly posted 650 this morning. so I jumped on it after The owner sent me a video.

Its all original aside from the handlebars. This one also has 8500 miles and am super excited to get back on a street bike. Pumped its a 650 too. I paid $2500 for it. I think its fair especially being all stock and low miles.
It does show its age, as any original 45 year old bike would. But till clean up nice.
My plans are to ride it. and ride more. All jokes aside, I just plan on cleaning it up, I Do want to put an exhaust on it. I would like to upgrade the front brake weather thats pads and rotor or a more modern master cylinder and caliper. I want to put new cables on it as well.
All the other xs listed in my area either need a good amount of work or are chopped up and I was in the market for a turn key, all original bike.
Bike came with receipts from when it was serviced, original owners manual, repair manual, and few other things
Last bike I had a 94 kawasaki vulcan vn750. I really do miss that bike. Its been around seven years since and now I primarily ride dirt bikes as I'm in the desert.

Welcome and congrats on the purchase. It looks very nice. I like the '81, especially the drum rear mag (only year that had it). For the front brake, a braided line and an 11mm MC will fix it right up. No need to replace the disc or caliper, but you could drill the disc .....

For pads, I like the Ferodo Platinum .....

Welcome aboard Hanz. Looks like a great canvas.
You came to the perfect place. lots of us to help you spend your money.
OR sub in a rotor from a later Yamaha sport bike (such as FJ600), on a 6mm spacer and lose about 3lbs of unsprung weight.

PS that exhaust looks great, don't cut it.
thanks!. I don't plan on cutting it up, just replace. Ill keep the stock ones though. Thanks for the tip on the brakes

Antelope Velley, eh?
That stirs some memories of my early youth living in the high desert, Palmdale, Lancaster, fishing with me Pops at the Little Rock Dam.....chasing horn toads and frisbee flinging flat *sail rabbits.
Nice score!
Aside from what's been mentioned that bike appears to need nothing more than a rider.
Welcome aboard!
( *A rabbit that has been run over on a desert highway and dryed out so much that you can pick it up and throw it like a Frisbee®)
