Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

Make sure to tell us if you can find a replacement seat. I always just clean and polish them to the best of my ability and use OEM or K&L needles

I just bought jets for the 75 BS38’s cause one pilot n one main wouldn’t budge n had to use too much force. I had them out a couple years ago. Wanted to make sure carbs were fully clean. I’d rather keep trying to get the cvk set up to work.

My own experience is that the CVKs are a very good alternative carburettor for XS650. Worth persevering with I'd say.

When I first initially installed them with the Jets that you guys recommended it started up and ran halfway decent. I took them back off to try to work out a choke mechanism and when I reinstall them, they started to overflow. I’m not sure what happened because I never took them apart in between. I tried all kind of things too. Try to get it from overflowing but nothing worked and both of them were overflowing, not just one.

I came across an article telling about the guy that invented FI. Interesting read.

In the beginning for Cars They had Mechanical Fuel Injections
" Kugelfisher "
When worked better than carburetors but when not it was a sad story.
Word is that not many these days are able to Service and Adjust them .
I once was at a lecture someone explained how they Worked
I did not understand anything ...
Bosch also had something

I have a Honda Fire blade 2000 with electronic FI with reputation being jerky ON / OFF but not in my Opinion.
No problem or good even.
It have a lot of sensors so the response is impressive and that is all over the rev range.

I had a 2006 Suzuki Marauder with injection that was very on / off. You quickly learned not to get back on the throttle if you were at all pushing it mid corner. I also had a 2005 GS1200 with injection and it was absolutely perfect. Couldn't tell it apart from the best carbs except you had no choke.

All the FI moto's I've had ran great. Right now have a 2006 SV650 that is very smooth & predictable. Few Yammi's & Kawi's that were the same.

My W800 is efi - the earlier W650s had carbs and I wish I had bought one years ago. The efi works fine, good, progressive throttle repsonse at all revs, but I've noticed fuel consumption has gradually increased over the years. Ideally, I'd like to service it, re-set the tps but the procedure seems to need a test harness and a computer. I'm told you can make a harness and a good digital Vm will do the job? But by and large, Big K have managed to provide a system that's nearly equivalent to carbs.

Got the new clone CVK carbs. Sizes seem ok. They take the Keihin jets and needles. There is a difference in one area though. There's a screwed in jet in place of a pressed in affair in the genuine article. This one comes with 138 mains and 35 pilot. Mix screw isn't blanked off and adjusts fine.

Got the new clone carbs fitted. Runs without any flat spots but seems a little down on power compared to the real CVKs. That could easily be down to the leaking CVKs dumping fuel out the rear that was getting sucked back through the carbs and into the cylinders. Bound to make more power , to a point at least, if you throw extra fuel in. My trials were both with no filters so I could look for leaks better which should have aided extra fuel to burn. No leaks present as you should expect of new carbs. My particular bike seems geared for a top speed around 0.5 C as near as I can figure so it's never going to pull arms from sockets when requested to do so. Setting off requires a most un-bike like slipping of the clutch.

These clone CVKs do seem like an option at least.

I should get the new float seats next week so will report on those as and when.

My thanks to those who trod the path before me for jetting data.

Asking £250 but took £235.
Thanks. I think that's a useful addition to the knowledge here in this thread. If Keihin jets, needles etc.... fit then that's great.

Given the cost of the used carbs these days on eBay for items that need a complete overhaul, those clones aren't at all bad value. At least you don't have the common issue of pilot mixture screws being seized with those new ones.

I came close to one on my CVK34s being scrap because of a seized mixture screw. But managed to rescue it in the end.
