Hello everybody,

So this is a bit of an interesting problem I am having, but I just recently installed a new clutch cable, adjusted the tension using the little nut and screw thingy on the LH cover. I also went ahead and replaced the exhaust gaskets, but when I went to try and start the bike using the kickstarter, i have absolutely no compression. Not sure if I knocked something out of alignment or perhaps the exhaust gaskets I put in aren’t sealing. I purchased everything from MikesXS. I don’t see how doing anything the clutch would cause my compression to completely disappear, my only guess would be the exhaust gaskets, but even then that doesn’t make a ton of sense to me. they looked identical to the previous ones I had in. Maybe it’s not seating properly and I should apply some gasket sealer? Anyways if yall have any ideas on what could cause this please let me know!

Sounds like the clutch cable/incorrect adjustment is pulling the clutch in. Shouldn't be anything to do with the exhaust gaskets as the valves will be closed on the ignition stroke. I'd recheck the clutch adjustment, does the clutch work through the gears? when its in gear can you roll the bike?

This is a project bike I picked up about a month ago that is needing a ton of work. I can only get the bike into 1st and Neutral. Won’t go up to gears 2-5. When I drop the bike into 1st and pull in the clutch, it still doesn’t roll either though. Not sure what’s going on with the transmission. Probably needs oil. I tried putting it in gear and rocking it to try and loosen the plates but it won’t give. I’ll try loosening the adjustment screw to see if that fixes my problem. Clutch not disengaging didn’t cross my mind for causing it to not have any compression.

You can do compression tests with no exhaust fitted, even run the engine with no exhaust - but its not recommended (no back pressure) LOL.
If the clutch is pulled in the kickstarter will have no compression.
If I understand correctly the clutch wasn't working before and so you changed the cable and adjusted it hoping that would help to fix it?
"Probably needs oil" - If its been stood with no oil that would explain why it doesn't roll with the clutch pulled in, plates must be stuck together.
Did you try the kickstart before you changed anything, and did it have compression then?

compression was great, got the bike running twice but would backfire horribly from the left exhaust (hence the gaskets), clutch cable was completely seized which is why i replaced it, and after doing all the clutch adjustments I was finally able to drop it into first and get it up to 2nd and 3rd, couldn’t get it to 4th or 5th. Tightened the adjustment screw some more then that’s when I could only get it into 1st and Neutral and lost compression. I’ll loosen the adjustment screw when I get home from work and see if that helps.
